you can get oe size valves that are better quality than the stock ones. I would just go with the skunk2 stuff since they make that stuff to work with their cams.

all you need is the springs, titanium retainers and cam gears.........or you could get the skunk 2 tuner stage 1 cams and still use your stock springs/retainers as long as you dont rev past 8k

Ti retainers mushroom after like 15K miles and have to be replaced. They really are for racing, they're light and not meant for running for like 100K+ miles. Crower makes some steel alloy ones and possibly other companies do. Plus, the steel Crower retainers are cheaper than the Ti Crower retainers.

At least look into it.

yeah i find it kinda odd that the ti retainer is a lot more expensive than the steel alloy 1s, sure their lighter and whatever but if they mushroom after 15k that is 1 big *** waste of money!

I'm not sure if the Type R has Ti retainers. Honestly I have only done limited reading on them because I think they're a bad deal unless you're leaving them stock. And what fun is that?

Aftermarket Ti retainers mushroom after like 15K from what I heard. They remove more material to make them lighter, which is good on a race engine to allow you to rev higher. I'm not saying the Skunk2 or other Ti retainers are bad, but they just aren't suited to a daily driver. I was going to get some Ti retainers, but after reading about them, I decided to go with the cheaper Crower BC0010S spring and steel retainer set.

I've had skunk2 titanium retainers on my car for over 50k with no problems... To the OP what do you have done to your motor to take advantage of such aggressive cams?

Without upping the compression of your motor you will not be able to take advantage of those cams... It will be a complete waste of money and your car probably wont run very well... At the MOST I would go for the skunk2 tuner stage 2 cams... I have the stage 1s and I am happy with the gains...

pro2's are WAY overkill for a stock b16a

Nope, ITR B-series retainers are steel as well.

OP - it's safe to run the OEM retainer with aftermarket springs if you're concerned about Ti retainers failing.

i've been running my Toda Ti retainers now for the past 8000kms and so far, all looks well.

also, listen to tercel and speedoo. those cams will be more cam than your motor can handle and you'll be very disappointed with the minimal gains you'll see with them on your set up.

and yes, you should get cam gears. how else will you degree the cams in when you install them to find out where your true center line (0,0 settings) are?

I recommend the skunk2 tuner stage 1 cams for your setup... You don't need the pro series gears, just get the tuner ones... I upgraded the springs, retainers and valves all to skunk2 parts, its not necessary but I had the head apart so I did it anyway...

Don't forget that without a tune the car won't perform any better than stock and will run terribly...
