Default tri-metal vs. bi-metal bearings

Ive searched, because I definately thought this would of been covered but couldnt find anythiny so I'm going to ask.

Whats the real difference between them? Im building a JRSC DD and hoping for around 240whp at 10-11psi. Want a reliable shortblock that I can put some miles. And in no way do I want this to turn into a oem vs. ACL vs. king vs. blah blah blah bearing arguement.

ps. H-T's new search engine sucks ball bag

Just run oem and let the engineers rack their brains making this stuff. Im rockin an ls bottom end @450+ and drive it 50+ miles to the track, run low 11's, and back home on oem bearings. What else could u ask for?

Wish i could delve into the nuances of tri-metal vs bi-metal bearings but i cannot...what i do know is that OEM Honda bearings have been proven to work time and time again in much higher horsepower setups. Why reinvent the wheel?

I know I should go oem but due to budget restraints I am exploring other options. Im not building a race/track car, just a decently quick and reliable DD.

If that's the case, then for what you're trying to do, there are no better options than what the OEM intended. Bite the bullet, and get going. Why cheapen out on the most important aspect of an engine build?

Why not just get a set of acl's? there like $100 for a full set.

why we are on the subject of bearings, this is a good time for an oem refresher. does anyone remember or have a link to the process of figuring out the bearing colors needed. I know you pull the numbers off the block, then the crank, but thats all I can remember. I havent built a block in about 2 years and Im getting ready to put another one together.

^like he said whats another 60$ for that piece of mind. If you cant spare that then you shouldnt be building one up.

I know I should be using OEM but that would cost me an extra $180 - (whatever I can sell the kings for). And I'd love to go acl but they seem to be on backorder or something and I really dont want to run the race bearings.

srmofo - heres a link that may help you

So I plastigage'd in the king bearings last night and they are coming in at roughly .0014 to .0016. So I'm thinking that I'm going to have to go oem honda so that I can get my .0018" of oil clearances. Does .0014" - .0016" of clearance alittle too tight for a DD JRSC setup?

My build is in the 0.0015-0.0017" with ACL's and I was hitting 248whp on a DD turbo. I boosted 17K miles and I have accumulated 20K more N/A.

I think evans-tuning video doc recommended around 0.0017" or so.

I remember watching the Omniman B16a build video and he talked about how the GSR bearings are the best from Honda. You have to machine the rods (if not gsr rods) for the bearings to fit.
