88-89 bumpers on a 90-91 hatch question
i know that the 88-89 and the 90-91 have quite a few slight differences to them, and i was wondering if i would be able to use 88/89 front and rear bumpers on my 90 hatch.
I had them on my 90 si for a while. It fit in the back fine. In the front I was running no bumper support so I'm not sure If they will work if you have yours on still. Most likely though.
You use the bumper support that is matched to the bumper. I have an 88-89 bumper on my 91 hatch. Originally I used the 91 support but it was off (90-91 bumper sticks out further), I then replaced it with the support that matched the bumper and it fit fine. Same with the rear bumper. The major fitment issues for the rear bumper are with the brackets that attach to the bottom portion of the bumper, 90-91 brackets go lower slightly because the 90-91 bumper is lower (by like half an inch to an inch, I don't really remember).

You can try to use two flatheads to squeeze the clips to pop out of the door from the outside. The correct tool looks sort of like a two tooth fork, split like a snake's tongue (sorry, don't know how else to describe it). The way I took mine out was I took off the one bolt in the doorjamb and tapped the molding forward until it came out. This only worked for me because the clips were facing the same direction on my molding and I'm guessing that they are like that from the factory too but use this technique at your own risk.
