coolant leak inside
Hi,
I am seeing some coolant inside my car on the passenger side floor carpet. sometimes i see some fumes too but not like smoke fumes. I read that it must be the heater core. Is there an article to fix this or how to replace the heater core. how much of an effort is it ? cost wise if i do it myself, how much i will spend and how much time it will take. how much if i get it done outside.
Thanks,
~AR

Well from what i have heard other people talk about, you gotta remove the dash, then take out the heater box, seperate the two halfs and there she sits. However if you have A/C in the car, you need to get the R34A out of the system (thats right guys, i didnt say freon, for you spazzoids who freaked out on that other guy). Which means when you put the system back together to recharge the system your gonna need at least two cans of r34a and a vac pump to pull a vacuum on the system prior to refridgerant fill.
Personally i would take it someone just to avoid the headach for myself

if its coolant its coming out of your heater hose,it has a tare or it might be coming loose, its located right next to the thermostat and goes around through the car and to the head or other way around

It is the heater core. Do a search for "heater core" in the Integra forum, with posts created by my username and you should find a good bit of info, since I just replaced mine about 6 months ago.
You definitely have to remove the dash and the A/C evaporator box. I had my A/C discharged at a shop, where they measured how much refrigerant oil came out of the system, then recharged it after I was finished using the same amount of oil.
I ordered a complete used heater core box off eBay for like 50 bucks, but the box ended up having some damage when I got it, so the seller refunded me 25 bucks. The core itself was fine, and I ended up just transferring that over to my heater box.
So it ended up being only $25 for the used heater core in good condition, and about $125 for the shop to discharge and recharge the A/C.
Expect a shop to charge $400-$500 for the job, mainly because of the labor involved with having to remove the dashboard from the car. If you're mechanically inclined, I highly recommend doing it yourself, but it'll be much easier with a helper when getting the *heavy* dashboard in and out of the car.
