Default bypass valve broke!

I was looking under the hood when i noticed that the aem bypass valve on my aem cai was broken halfway. The other half of it is still holding together but there is a gap that i can stick a pencil into (i may have pics later). Ive stopped driving the car for fear of something being sucked up into the manifold. ill probably contact AEM and get another bypass valve for free, but how do i know it wont happen again? My other option is to get the comptech icebox which ive heard is even better than the aem. Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: ive removed the broken bypass valve and replaced it with a cut water bottle that was the right diameter and duct taped that mo on. question for aem cai owners: other than the rubber soft mount are there any other mounts on the intake?

Just my opinion, but I'd save my money and put the stock intake back on.

There is a lot of good info on intakes in old threads. Do a search, educate yourself and make up your own decision

Stock intake box

Although I would like to have an AEM CAI to "test" out on my ITR.

man those bypass valves are a disaster. I have a friend that had a bad experience with a bypass valve. The foam actually got sucked right up to his throttle body and had the throttle body jamed open. Ive heard other horror storys about these things and im not the slightest bit impressed.

AEM made a bunch of defective bypass valves a while back. When I heard of it, I contacted AEM and they sent me a bypass valve "clip" that would not allow it to get jammed into the throttle body if broken. They will probably want some info: when you purchased your AEM CAI and the product #. Sounds like you might wanna purchase a new bypass valve, which will not be free. By the way this was on my 2000 Si. Give them a call ASAP.. Good luck.
