Although my first video only has dirt footage, about 30 per cent of my raciing was on the black top, which you'll see in episode 2 to be released shortly. In a word? Sssmmmokin!

 

That was all in 1st gear, that poor engine.

i agree wtf rally obviously there arnt any real rally cars racing there like any sti's or r32 makes me wounder if this is all fake or if the guys even be to an actual rally race they fly at an adverage of 90mph during the race this looked like a riced out car u c in la own by a 16 yearold drivin in the woods i want the 5 mins of my life back.

Welcome to Honda-Tech. Enjoy the haters and the jackass comments, you will get a lot of them. It was awesome to see someone rallying a Civic, even though its not the conventional way to race a Civic. What suspension are you running on it? You'll be much happier with the B20V build your doing but be careful, the B20 block doesn't have the oil squirters on the bottom end like VTEC engines do. I have a feeling that might actually be trouble for you considering you are revving the **** out of this thing all the time. Good luck.

 

i think its great. who is to say a civic isn't supposed to rally? There are alot of people who do it, just not in this country cuz the internet idiots will hate left and right. And you dont seen STis there because its different classes, why would an AWD car race a FWD car thats pretty obvious really

No doubt the rod/stroke ratio of the B16A helped keep it alive through 3 years of revving like that.

Hopefully the B20 VTEC you plan on using is up to the task.

I didn't want to leave it in 1st gear, but if I changed up to 2nd at racing speeds it took AGES to change back down into 1st again. When you're chucking a fwd car sideways into a dirt corner relying on instant power to keep the car stable and drifting that just isn't workable. Some Honda rev limiters kill the engine for a couple of seconds so it completely dies, but fortunately the 1.6's limiter just kept the engine running at max revs (as you can hear). This actually resulted in a very predictable and constant engine speed.
When I removed this motor to fit the B20 bottom end (2nd video to come), there was absolutely no damage inside the engine. You could close your eyes and run a finger up the bore - and feel no lip at the top at all. Incredible!

Bottom line is - the Civic has proved a kick *** combo on dirt and the tar. Fantastic handling and great Vtec power. The rwd boys in my state can't believe their dominance is over.

There are WRX's and Evos here. No R32's on the dirt though. Rallies and championships are not just about outright places. There are classes too, and that was where I was successful. No-one's pretending I was a contender against the WRX's - although I did often beat some due to their unreliability. Out of fields of 50-60 competitors I carried various numbers in that video that showed my ranking in the field. I think the highest I got to was no.11, which I was very happy with.

The car was a VTiR, and came with the DOHC B16, not the D15. You are so right about the D15. Racing mates of mine bought Hondas & tried to mimic my max rev driving and got around two events out of them before the smoke set in.
