crx transmission HELP!
well as title says i really need help with my transmission....
so far i got the transmission which shift fork broke and such and i was puting in the new transmission in everything was going fine till i hit a sudden stop
i am able to get 4 of the 5 tranny to block bolts almost in but the bolt above the driver axle wont go in all the way as in the whole back side wont slide in.......
note* only way to close the transmission up a lil bit was to screw in the bolts lil bit to close in the tranny lil bit but the backside and bottom wont close easily it wont move at all really......... i took the transmission out like 4 times cause i cross threaded the troubling bolt above the driver axles but i just recently fixed the threads on it and still cant advance any farther :'(
can get pics of wat i meant tommorrow but as for now someone that can understand this plz help me
so CLOSE to being done with my first transmission swap

Did the input shaft go into the clutch disk properly? The trans should slide on most of the way and then use the bolts to bring it all the way together and make sure that the dowel pins are lining up correctly.
When the shaft goes into the clutch correctly you should have enough for 4 or 5 threads into the block from the bolts going through the trans bellhousing.
You have to wiggle the trans back and forth and maybe even move the input shaft on the trans a little to get it to line up correctly before the trans will slide on properly.

well when i basically was puting the new transmission in i had to sorta get the input shaft in good enough where i can get some of the bolts to support the transmission...
when i had to re thread the threads for the one on top of the driver axle.... i managed to get it close enough and get the bolts screwed in and such and when i was going in ferther with the other bolts the thing just pop back out and the threads was f*ked up and i redid the threads... again.... should i just try to reseparate it a lil bit and just try to get the thign in by sliding it in without puting the bolts in?

Yeah the trans should go in a decent amount where it can kinda support itself on the dowel pins and then put the bolts in and when you do this do a couple of threads on each bolt at a time so it goes on evenly and you don't strip any of the threads because it's stretching to get to the next thread.

well count the number of splines on the tranny shaft or better take the clutch off and see if it slides on to the tranny shaft. and when putting it back you gotta align the clutch with t align kit
I ran into this same exact problem when I replaced my transmission a few months ago. Same exact thing you're describing. Turned out that the input shaft wasn't going into the clutch properly. Logically, if the input shaft goes into the clutch there's is really nothing else that can prevent the tranny case from seating itself to the block even without bolts. For my particular situation, I let the tranny sit and had the engine still in the car for a few months and my guess is that some surface rust formed or some sort of debris was in the splined hole. Fortunately, I had a scrap tranny for parts and I took the input shaft out of that and hammered it into the clutch to make sure it was clear (and it wasn't, it took a while to make it fit into the clutch). After that, I mounted the tranny to the block with no issues.
For your situation, it's probably best to do as "chivid" said and remove the clutch altogether and make sure it will slide onto the input shaft of the tranny.

well im gnna try to count the splines and the transmission is the same one as my old one and the clutch is a new OEM one.....
gnna take the transmission back out lil bit and will try to wiggle it in to see if it can somehow match up with the clutch

Just noticed you said the tranny hasn't been used for a couple of years...check and make sure there isn't any rust or build up of any sort on the input shaft as well.
well some surface rust on the gears itself..... and some on the input shaft other then that just spider web combs and such inside the transmission and i cleaned the transmission and such
So you actually split the case open and saw rust on the gears?
If it really is just surface rust, you should be able to wipe it off basically (with some effort of course). If it's actually rusted, you might want to look for another tranny. How in the world did it get rusted anyway? It's a sealed case. How was it stored?

Ahhh that makes sense why rust has formed. Well, it's hard to yes or no it's not usable still. Can you post a picture of the rust on it? Like I said, if you can wipe/scrub it off then its more than likely still good. If it's rusted as in its completely eaten into the metal, don't even bother.
well i already got the transmission closed and somehow when i was puting it in i was geting the snap ring in place and such i got it partially in so i tried to put the weight on the case and push it in and it closed..... i just heard the oil would do some thing to the rust... the input shaft is lil rusted but pretty sure it can be sand off........
since it havent been used for years i just think i should get a better transmission thats ready to be put in moment its bought

Well if it's worth the effort to you, I'd pull the tranny one more time. If you're just going to replace it anyway might as well pull it now. At least this way it'll be out and you can inspect and verify if it even needs to be replaced.
well one of the bearings was missing so i had to remove the bearing from my old one and replace the missing one and such...... and i would imagine theres dirt and such inside the transmission under the gearset and such so yea think its better off to get another tranny with the inside never showned to the sunn
