B20 or ls B18
Hey, right now I'm running a CRX Si with JDM B16a. The rings are shot and I'm thinking a want a completely new bottom end and just buy another head later for another build down the road. So I'm wondering if I should go B20 for the extra torque, but my problem is what if I'm not putting out enough horsepower (I saw a completely stock B20a with 126 hp). Or do a typical Ls Vtec. Just thought I would ask for opinions.
Well since you already have the hard work done for a X/vtec do that. You have wiring in place, have the head, you just need to oil the head and some dowel pins etc. Golden eagle makes a kit to simplify things greatly.
I would buy a b18 shortblock(they are everywhere) get some p30 pistons to up the cr while its easy and you'll have a sweet little setup for not much cash

LS blocks can be found for dirt cheap and you do have most of the parts for a lsvtec but one thing....ARP is so helpful when your building motors that aren't ment to go past 7500rpm either way you gonna have good results

ok no ls and b20 are almost the same thing in fact some some bottom ends have only two more hp than a ls it depends which one you get.... i'm gonna agree with allxmotor eg ctr itr and b16 pistons ls rods with arp 2000 rod bolts vtec head b16 if avaliable type R cams if you can and thats a motor i wouldnt wanna race in a ef...i mean if i was just quick not fast you'll be FAST not just quick with that setup...
Well then all i need is the bottom end of an ls because my buddy just has itr and type r parts laying around, i bet he would sell them to me. And the car would move. Especially with the motor in my Rex! xD
Hey does your friend have a ITR tranny? i really need it!!!!! bad!!! just let me know....dont forget your car is gonna be fast so try to get the power to the ground
I would honestly do the B20 unless you DO want to boost it.....and if you want more than 400 horsepower you will have to sleeve whatever you are using anyway.
80% of engine failure under boost is due to bad tuning.
The B20vtec I just watched on the dyno earlier made 230hp and 158 tq to the wheels with stock PR3 head and stock B20Z bottm with ARP rod bolts and Hondata.....thats it.
Pretty impressive if you ask me.
try a b20 with ITR style pistons, stock rods if you cant afford rods, a good header, some Skunk 2 stage 2 cams, aftermarket valvetrain, a 68mm TB and a good tune... 200 whp for sure or close to it
Does anyone know if the tyranny from my engine will work?
i had it and spun a bearing because i ripped my oil pan driving for 8 miles and a few stop lights. (cause you know, being low isnt fun) it went 13.6
i have another longblock in my room. im about to put in my car and b20vtec again.
my brother had a stock b20vtec in his crx that ran 12.8 stock on tune.
that motor was put together by me in 05 and its still running today in an EE wago.

b20 block, b16 head, mill the head and use its internals and cams. should make decent power or use itr intake cam and gsr exhaust cam. that way you can run a 2.0 b20 vtec :D
