Not sure anymore with those new smog laws, but I used to run a carsound on my GSR. I now run a SMSP 300 cel cat.

I found a car sound OBD2 catylatic convertewr that has a 2.5 inlet and outlet for 60$ but it is not legal in california, What is the difference between legal acatylatic converters and 49 state legal catylatic converters?? I know somone that can weld it on but if it is not gonna pass smog I font want to waste my money and get it.
i'd suggest getting one installed at a exhaust shop so if if fails smog it is easier to get a replacement put in. i had to replace my new one and i got it that week, it took like an hour to go get it swaped and smog again. it would have sucked if i had to cut it off and send it back.
mine is 2 1/2 in-out

There are lots of muffler shops out here in the IE/Corona/Norco area... Just call around and see what prices they give you. I bought my cat here on HT and had the muffler shop do it for me.

yea, thats what im planning to do i got a quote for $40 bucks labor to have it installed. I just want tomake sure i buy a good cat thats legal in cali.
I'm not 100% on cats, but I know this is how it works for exhaust headers
CARB legal basically means 'oem' replacement.
For example a 2.25 inch cat is legal, but as b16's or CRX's never came with 2.5 inch piping a 2.5inch cat is not. And then even if the company that makes it could make the best cat in the world it will not pass smog with out being approved by the California Air Resources Board (usually expensive to the company).

My B18c5 has a hard time passing smog with a 2 1/2" brand new cat.
I am going to fab a 2 1/4 and see if it helps.
Seems the cat doesnt get hot enough with the larger piping.

^^ Really? That sucks, I was thinking of doing a JDM ITR header, 2.5 carsound cat and exhaust system and hoped/thought it would pass smog and visual.... bummer....
When I smogged my car, I drove it 2 hours straight and I am for sure that thing was hot...

im not sure if this helps, but when my exhaust was put on i had my exhaust guy cut the outside of the cat in two, hollow it out, and then weld the cover over my exhaust piping where the converter "should" be. looks pretty good. i mean, aside from the whole "smog legal" thing.
