Default Smog Legal CAT in CA

OK I want to replace my cat but not ssure if OEM or aftermarket is the way. Being in smog tight Cali... I need it to be smog legal. Not like an intake that can be easily swapped out in minutes. So what is out there.

Can I use a different year GSR cat? I also have an generic loud **** muffler that I plan on changing out for a quiter one.

What is best for me?

Check on Magnaflow/Carsound website, or even smsp http://sms-products.com/Converters.html from here on H-T. They both have CA OBD2 and OBD1 compliant catalytics. You need to give us more info, such as year, mods, do you want a direct fit or weld up type, etc.

If you want a high flow direct replacement, I strongly suggest Dave from smsp, he is a very cool guy to talk to and can recommend you the right cat for your purpose.

Well, I am not out to make a speed machine.Just want a little more than stock but not close my options later own the way. Regular bolt ons is what I have: Headers, Exhaust and intake for power updgrades. I would like to keep it smog legal. I am trying to find out different ways to make it accelerate faster to get VTEC to kick in. Not sure if I want to repprogram the ECU.

Hope that gives you more of an idea.

pretty much i think that all cats are smog legal (not positive but i don't see why you would make a cat that isn't). The high flow cats are better for power but can make it harder to pass emissions tests.

They mainly just check to see if you have it there. They don't really look at the numbers or writing on it.

yeah so times high flow cats don't heat up and it causes high numbers. other times its fine. stealth50k is right they don't check the cat, just that you have one. Actually the BAR does check the cat out more that making sure you have one.

I went to a smog shop in OC before and the guy stuck a long stick with a mirror attached to the end of it under my car and said GTFO. (running a highflow cat)

Can they be bolted on? I really do not want one that has to be welded on.I want to have the option to remove later.

Looking to go Trust Exhaust and a DC Header

yes my cat is bolted on and trust me i dont' think you would want to remove it later after replacing that stock cat you might want to keep it on and don't go with a dc header.

Yes, like I already said, smsp has bolt on high flow cats.

Think again, all cats are not smog legal, specially in CA, and specially for an OBD2 vehicle. Do you even know the difference between a 2 and 3 way cat? Why do you think that cheap high flow cats make it harder to pass emissions tests. A high quality high flow cat should be just as effective as a stock cat if it's built correctly.

Dude, you really have no idea what you're talking about do you. Why would a high flow cat not head up. Does it have some way of dissipating the heat?
And why would the BAR be checking your cat?
