Default Help buying an ITR

Hey I am new to the forums, but I have been trolling for a while. I don't really know much about cars, and I am going to get my car soon. I was wondering if you guys can help me out with my purchase. I found a type r on craigslist but I don't know if its real or not, thanks.

Just from the pictures it looks to be real but you would definitely want to check VIN #'s and do a carfax. The fact that it doesn't have ITR seats or badging and that it is $8999 but only has 62k (says 68k) seems fishy.

Thanks for the reply, so like what should I be looking for and stuff...

Ask them if the VIN's match. They have said it has a clean title but ask if it's been involved in any accidents and if they will provide a carfax (if it's a dealer). Find out if it has a Type R motor (B18C5) and tranny in it and if they are original. $8999 for a '00 with 62k is cheap so it would throw up some red flags for me.

ask that dealer if they're willing to part out the rims. I'll trade them my OEM ones. If those wheels are what I think they are

If this is your first and only car, I would strongly suggest something else than an R. I'm pretty sure that one has to be a salvage or something, despite the ad.

that car just looks like it has been stolen before. of course i totally could be wrong and the forum has given you great advice here. cars are kind of hard to sell these days and dealers are moving out inventory cheap. 9k wouldn't surprise me for an R that needs a little TLC. like others have said, that's a great deal since it's issues appear to be minor. personally, i would also like to see a warm compression and leak down test. i'd hate to see you either have to rebuild or swap a jdm engine for an extra couple grand.

In the Seattle/Tacoma are, it could be a good chance it has been stolen but as you said, dealers are struggling a little bit.

I would still check into the first one to see if it's legit. Maybe it's a good deal, you never know.

The others...the black one has a JDM front, are you into that? The '98 is nice if you have that kind of money to spend and want a SC'd car.

Like someone else said, if this is your first (and only) car to drive through college, you may want to make sure an ITR is for you right now.

Personally, I would take this one
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/1200942407.html
I think this one is best for your buck. Looks good.

Also, the yellow one for 9k seems great if everything is there and car runs. You should definitely check it out in person quick before someone else gets it.

The last one that you post up, I dont think its worth the 13k .... its been stolen nothing is original even the motor isnt..... whats the point. It looks bad for 13.

Just my opinion

Hahaha didn't know Mugen put out a set of SW's Just messing w/ ya

To the OP...

Go with this one, http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/1195633361.html.

Personally, I not a big fan of buying a motor w/ lots of work on it already and it prob isn't going to be the best option for a DD, but it does seem well taken care of. JMO.

That one may be clean but it sounds like it's got a supercharger, which can wreak much more havoc than a built motor.

This is a good idea, come to the NW ITR meet this weekend. There are a couple for sale I believe and you would learn a lot about them and get any questions answered you might have.

The initial R listed in this thread ran through at auction a couple months ago, in Southern California if I remember correctly. Even though it was missing several OEM parts inside and out, and most of the VIN stickers were missing on the panels, I was still interested in it because of the miles... that is, until I called the auction and they told me that they had determined that the engine was not original to the car, and they were going to sell the car AS-IS and with 'True Mileage Unknown'. I figured it was a theft recovery, seeing as how the wheels, seats, etc. were not original and the spoiler and emblems were missing. Even though they said it wasn't the original engine, I thought it may still be Type R under the hood, maybe a JDM swap. I never could get anyone at the auction to go out and confirm the block code, so I decided to pass on it. I think it brought about $7,500 plus a buy fee. Not too bad if its got a clean title, and a Type R engine and tranny. I don't know though, if I had a clean title R with 68k actual miles on a real Type R engine and transmission, I definitely wouldn't let it go for 9,000.
