all name brands make pretty good stuff. i have a shoei helmet (cant remember price) and a joe rocket textile jacket ($189) and joe rocket leather gloves ($49) and they saved my *** in a crash. get a jacket with full pads in it for sure! i went to my local motorcycle shop to get my stuff. make sure the helmet is DOT and SNELL approved also. the helmet will be a little more pricey but your life is worth it

I recommend perf. leather, gauntlet gloves and full boots as a minimum.

For aprox 700$ you could go this route:

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com...y+Jacket+Promo

Leather jacket + DOT/Snell helmet = 300$

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=2082

Great boots = 300$

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=3097

Great gloves = 150$

Total = 750$...it's 50$ off your budget, but I believe it's a great combo of quality gear that should last...specially the boots and gloves! Look around that page, or check out:

Also don't forget to get a pair of riding pants too

honestly id goto a store and try on as much gear as you can. i went to the bike shop and tried on every helmet they had in the whole store. took about an hr, but eventually i found that shoei helmets work with my head the best, even better than the most expensive helmets

i also bought a jacket and pants online, but when i got it, i found out they didnt fit too well, so i had to return them. small things like that are annoying when buying online especially with moto gear cuz it has to fit perfectly

if you really want to buy online, id goto a store and find what brands fit you well and the sizing and then buy online to save money

Ya know i used to follow that idea but I have a friend who has been riding quite some time 9+ years, track day junkie, and works as a motorcycle tech that loves icon and swears by it.

IMO icon helmets are only for style and not for performance..
its pretty heavy on the neck and strains it during long rides..
spend the little extra cash for something comfortable
