Default stubborn crank bolt

b18a1 and manual cable tranny.

I just cant get the damn bolt to break. I've had the car in 5th with feet on the brakes standing on the damn brakes and it still wont break free.

tried an impact gun and been using my 3' breaker bar.

damn engine wants to turn. whats the safest way to stop the engine from turning so I can break this bolt loose so I can get at the timing belt...

What size Impact gun did you use?? I have a 1/2" and mine wouldn't move it. I had to load my engine in my truck and take it to a shop. they used their 3/4" gun and it broke it loose.

A trick I use to do at the dealership when I worked there is if a damper pulley capscrew (bolt) was a bastard and I have some badass impacts over 1300ft lbs TQ still couldnt break it I would pull the number 1 spark plug out and feed this soft flexible repelling rope I had thru the spark plug hole into the cumbustion chamber until it could not take anymore. I would then get a 3/4" breaker bar and cheater pipe and it comes right off. I have done this manny many times and it has never damaged any engine I have ever worked on and trust me I have changed alot of timing belts

This is easy, go to Harbor Freight and pick up one of these:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36813
Wrap it around the pulley and put the handle on the motor mount that is rite there for leverage, and break the nut loose. I use it on the Cam nuts too =]
