Kandy paint the cheap/hard way. Come criticize!
Well since the last thread I made here I thought i'd challenge myself. One of the paint shops introduced me to this cheap alternative way of painting kandy. I also tried to get the car straighter than before so I thought what the hell. Well anyways the stuff I used are far from what you guys use as far as quality goes. All it really is, is OMNI AU Charcoal base, 1.5 gallons of U-POL clear, and 8oz of kandy koncentrate. Here it goes.
The car after fixing some "waves"

The kandy

The outcome after base

Then we added the kandy in the clear and shot the car REAL light/Dry. Wasn't aiming for the clear look, just more of coverage. Reason being, my teacher told me if I shot the car light with clear/kandy, i'll have less chance of the kandy moving around. Had to sacrifice orange peel for an even pattern of kandy. Walked the whole side.

Here you can see the stuff I used

After 3 coats of kandy I went ahead and got one medium coat of clear itself. Then proceeded to keep putting medium coats of clear 3 more times. Here are the end results

Then I sanded the whole car down with 800 to 1000 to 1500. Then tried system one cutting polish on the fender. Still need to finish the whole car. One thing I notice is it now has less of a kandy effect and got less redder. why even though i didnt sand down to the clear w/ kandy? IDK? anyways here are the pictures. BTW: System1 is the ****

That's all for now folks! Hope you enjoyed

I am extremely surprised. I think those final pictures turned out nice. I couldn't say weather or not I would do it to my car until I saw it in person. But looks crazy.

looks pretty sweet. it may have lost some of its candy effect because of the added additional normal clear you put on sort of diluted it, even though im sure you let the "candyclear' flash for a while when you add the regular clear its still gonna melt together and cure together, so it probably lost some effect during that. but its looks pretty damn good to me, experimental painting is always fun. ive made my own chameleon type paint job before by adding a little black and green pearl flake into my clear, than coming back the next day sanding it down and putting striaght clear on it, it was pretty cool thats definitely a nice hatch man.
Looks great bro but that wasn't a cheap/ghetto way to do it.Hok does make those concentrated candies. And you can mix it to the clear from what I was aware of.Actually a majority of painters Don't really like to do it because it can mottle, streak with suck light colors. However I can see you did a real good job.I see you paint, same here car looks real good keep it up.

IMPATIENT, that could of happened, but it would of been noticable that the tint was coming off when i wet sanded the car down but the residue was strictly white no red what so ever. Also remember I didn't soak the clear on so its less prone to happen.
blue2000em1, the tint was to intensify HOK kandy so you use less kandy which saves more money but then again since it gives it color, you put on a darker coat of kandy which means you put less coats on to acheive your color, which also means you're more prone to seeing stripes. Custom shops that do motorcycle work like tanks, helmets, etc. then noticed that they can add this tint into clear to get the kandy affect only on small applications though. Doing a whole car is kind of risky because the clear can do some funky stuff like run on you and take the kandy with him lol.

sweet. i slapped this guy the other day at work because he stated painting your car with HOK is rice. I literally degraded his manhood by slapping him. Nice work man looks sexy.

and here's the Data Sheet From Hok themselves saying that you can use the Hok KK in a Gallon of Clear.(however it has to be mixed with a Hok clear). There clears are phrone to hold Film Mils.Keep in mind Urethane clears are mixed differently compared to the Laquer finishes.

Come on man I've dealth with Hok Candies for awhile. It's good to have a friend that's a rep for all the paint store of Fl.And has been doing this for 25years!!!

wow blue2000em1 you're a tough one. Re-read what i said. KK will add more tint to HOK itself to reduce the amount layers. SG100 is an intercoat, it's not regular urethane clear. you mix SG100 because it sprays just like base coat. It's what shops that do custom work use to protect their work without having to worry from it bleeding through, sagging, rotting, moving, etc. BTW: read the whole tech sheet on their KK, they don't recommend doing a whole car with it. But anyways since you insist on being mr. know it all. lets see CARS you painted using this technique. not test panels, not gas tanks, not helmets, i want to see a WHOLE car. BTW: You shoudl tell your friend to keep you updated because HOK have their own kandy base line.
and straight from the link you posted.....

Damn! it looks sick! that color is awesome. all you west coast guys have the sickest paint, im so jealous. it seems like a paint job like that on the east coast cost double what it does on the west...... i guess i need to fly you out to paint my hatch like that for the west coast price. lol
