Default Burning Oil?!?!?!

So i had to do my oil change and it hit the 3,000 mark but i only had less that a quart of oil in the pan. Friends have told me that black smock comes out of the exhaust when i step on it. Might the problem be that i need new rings or should i just get my engine check for leaks for $65? Any suggestions or ideas on what might b the best thing to do?

how many miles are on the engine?

you should start with a compression test and a leakdown test to see if your loosing compression, and if you are, the leakdown test will give you an idea where

if your burning oil then your piston rings are out.
you need to replace them and your compression will be back to normal and your engine will stop burning oil

he is the first and only owner of the car.(00 SI)
he gives it a oil change every 2,700 miles.
treats it like a baby.
never takes it past 7k.(when he races. which isnt many times)
shifts at 2,500 - 2,800 rpm. never takes it past 3k

so yea

Just do the compression and then the leak-down. That will be the answer.

^^ what he siad but its easier first to pull off you intake and cover the tb and if dies you dont have leaks if it stays runing you have a leak(s)

easieer then hunting down the vacum lines, if you dont have to.
what sort of mods do you have? has it been tuned after?
