b16a2 into 92 civic si swap questions?
I have a 92 civic si shell, chipped p28 ecu and a complete b16a2 motor/trans/axles and i'm planning to put it all together. I've done some research but just want some clarity for peace of mind.
Do I need some OBD conversion harness?
Will the Vtec wire up just fine or do I have to do something to the wire?
The chipped P28 takes care of the knock sensor, correct?
I'll be using the shift linkage of a 94-01 Integra, will the actual shifter have to be used as well, or will the civic shifter do?
When the swap is complete, is it ok to drive, will everything run just fine or will it have to be tuned?
Anything else I'm missing, suggestions, let me know. Or if anyone could link me to a b16a2 into eg si complete write-up, that'd be great! Thanks everyone.

If the Si harness is still intact then use it, you will just have to run a knock sensor wire from the knock sensor to the ECU, and also you will have to lengthen the IAT sensor wire. As far as converting to OBD1, you need an OBD1 distributor, and it looks like you already have an OBD1 ECU. I think that's all, but try researching, this information is probably in the FAQ.
Yes the Integra linkage will work and you can continue using your Civic shifter.
You shouldn't have to get it tuned as long as your P28 is setup to run a B16A.

Thanks, I didn't know about the iab wire and obd1 distributor. I'll check on the ecu to see what it's tuned for. Thanks again for the help.

the p28 will take care of the knock sensor, and i believe that ls shift linkage should work.
Thanks.
i also just found out that the p28 ecu is chipped for the z6, it's 100.00 for it. should i still buy it? will it work or do i have to rechip it for the a2? thanks.

Oops, I said IAB, but it's really the IAT wire, Intake Air Temperature sensor, *edited*. It's the little white sensor with two screws on it.
If it's chipped for a D16z6, I wouldn't get it. Try finding one stock (and have it chipped) or a chipped one with P30 settings.
if the ecu has been chipped with a z6 mapping on it, buy it and have it retuned.... as for the whole distributor thing, not any b series obd1 dizzy works.. you need one for a obd1 b16 or obd1 gsr.. since the ecu is chipped and everything you don't have to worry about running the wire for the knock sensor.. however on the obd2 b16's the IAT goes in the intake pipe, so you will have to run a longer wire for that.. everything else will be good to go though.. I have a 99 jdm b16 that I put in a 1993 Hatch... got it in a 93 del sol now...
I guess I'll be getting which ever one I come across first, p28 or p30. Another thing I've been wondering is after I put in the engine, do I have to have the ecu chipped before I start and drive the car? or will I be able to have a stock p28 or p30 in there for a few days? How will it run stock compared to chipped, etc? Thanks.
you can run it with a single cam base from the stock p28 but it will run super crappy, and a stock p30 is the ecu for a b16 so you won't have to worry about getting it chipped or anything.
Just thought i'd add, if you have the OBD2 distributor, alternator and Intjectors the easiest thing you can do from a wiring perspective is use a '96 - '97 Del Sol Vtec, '97 - '99 ITR or '96 - '99 GS-R engine harness, saves you from having to cutting and splicing or buying OBD1 components. Even a '96 - '99 LS engine harness works fine, you just have to add the vtec wiring.

Couldn't I use the Si harness I have with my car? It'd be awesome if I didn't have to buy a obd1 dizzy and just use everything off the b16a2.
it would be a lot cheaper to just get the engine harness from a list that 94EG8 has given you rather than going and buying a new dizzy, alternator and everything like I had to do.
So here's what I'm getting or already have. Let me know if I'm missing anything or need to switch out the parts for a different one.
-92 Civic Si Shell
-Complete B16A2 Motor
-Stock P30 ECU (not chipped)
-94-01 Integra Shift Linkage
-Engine Harness (96-97 vtec del sol/97-99 itr/96-99 gsr)
-Motor Mounts
A few final questions..
Since I'm switching using a obd2 vtec engine harness, Will I still have to extend the IAT wire?
The p30 ecu (not chipped) will I have to worry about the knock sensor?
I really don't want to spend 400.00 on Hasport mounts, could someone tell me exactly which mounts I need from what car?
Thanks. I'm planning on this swap to be finished by next weekend.

you can reuse your original timing belt mount (provided its the black stamped steel version, if its aluminum you'll need to pick up a black D-series mount) you can also reuse the orginal upper transmission mount. Rear T-bracket must come from a '94 - '01 5 speed integra or '94 - '97 Del Sol VTEC, the '99 - '00 Si T-bracket will not work. For the passenger's side lower mount/torque mount, reuse the civic rubber mount, the bracket the bolts to the tranny must come from a '94 - '01 Integra 5 speed, '94 - '97 Del Sol VTEC or '99 - '00 Si. Driver's side lower mount is again reused with the metal bracket coming from a '94 - '97 Del Sol Vtec or '97 - '01 CR-V if you wish to retain A/C, otherwise you can use the lower bracket from any B-series.
the wiring of your civic, mounts easily on b16a2 you just move the wire from the lambda probe in front of the back, then you should get a p30 or make the chip the P28, you also have the levers of change, if you want to do even more work clean, you must provide the pipe outlet of the pump and steer the radiator with water tubes attached (I speak only of the two departing from it and go to the engine), if I write it is another!
I found a p72 for a good price, what are my options with that? Would it be the same or how would my previous list change?
