a few questions

Default a few questions

i recently bought a 2000 civic si and was wondering about a few things.

(1) The car is lowered and the guy who sold it to me had a pair of camber kits for the front wheels. Are these neccessary to put on and if not are there any side effects of not having them?

(2) At about 20% to 30% throttle the car makes a whistling noise and i think it is coming from the fuel filter but im not sure if it would make that noise. Any help would be nice.

(3) At about a fourth of a tank of gas the car seems to start losing power and will sometimes even lose all power ie i will hit the gas and no power at all. this does not happen till im at around a fourth of a tank and was wondering what it could be.

1) depending on how low the car is you do need a "camber kit" to fix alignment
2) it sounds like you have a vacuum leak some ware probably on the intak if its aftermarket, if not check your manifold for open spots or cracked hoses
3) that has to do with your fule pressure regulator (wich works by vacuum) and or your fuel pump or fuel filter

pull the codes and find out what the pcm says is wrong with it

i dont feel anything wrong with the alignment right now so does that mean i dont need them or will it progress to something noticeable.

well the camber your not really gonna feel but it will affect your tread wear if their on just keep em on if not put em on.. its never a bad idea to have them even with jsut a little drop .. anyway if you lower a car you should have it realigned just to make sure everything straight

The camber kit is not necessary, tire wear due to alignment issues is primarily TOE wear, which can be rectified by getting the car aligned. If you lower a car, the camber will more than likely be out of spec, if it's lowered considerably, installing the camber adjustable control arms will hit the shock towers as they are much bulkier than the stock pieces.

(2) At about 20% to 30% throttle the car makes a whistling noise and i think it is coming from the fuel filter but im not sure if it would make that noise. Any help would be nice.

You wouldn't happen to have an aftermarket intake would you?

FPR can cause this, or also like Murk 'EM stated the fuel pump may be going bad.

ummm yes i do have a AEM v2 CAI....would i just tighten all the strap things for it?

Yep intakes make a slight whistling noise at partial throttle. My AEM SRI does it.

its 3 bolts to remove/install.. just aligning it takes a machine

let us know what code it is when you get it and we'll point you in the right direction, is the car running any differently? if not then just for fun i'm going to take a wild stab at it being an EVAP code for the valve set next to the gas tank.

all right so it came up to be 61 Primary oxygen sensor
i took some pictures of what i thought might be the problem from when i was cleaning my CAI i tried to unplug it and it looks like i pulled it out some but idk if thats the problem

That looks like the IAT sensor. The primary oxygen sensor is on the header before the cat.

well i went to get a new o2 sensor and my car is getting worse to where it actually died quite a few times while driving due to the bogging down of the motor....

btw i fond a post on cadillacs having the same problem and they said to check if this is the problem you could pull the hose out and turn the car on, but not with the engine running and the hose leaks fuel then thats the problem would that work on my civic though?

first of all camber kits will not the strut towers....i have them installed on mine and my car is lowered 3.25" and don't have a single problem. with them. depending on how negative the camber is at high speeds when you hit a bump it will throw the car to the side slightly and yes camber can affect tire wear, since the tires are riding primarily on the inside of the tire (dependent upon how low the car is) some negative camber is ok for cornering but not for straight line stability at high speeds.
