Default J&S w/ AEM EMS???

Anybody know if I'll run into any problems running the 2 of them together?

.....double-check this, but I believe the AEM EMS has the same functionality that the j&s has. So the j&s isn't needed like it is with hondata.....

dude i wouldnt worry about it. i am looking for a j&s but that is cause i am planning to spray my bitch up and i am going to spray the **** out of it so i would defenitly need it. i had one when my car was supercharged and when i got rid of the supercharge i sold the j&s since i wasnt going to need it for all motor
now i am up to no good and need another one so i can spray a whole bunch of alota naws!!
i mean the only reason i could see someone using it for an all motor car would be if they had really high compression that might cause detonation with shitty pump gas. but if you are 11.5 or under you should be fine with out it. then again this is just my opinion.

They can be run together...independent of each other...I prefer the J&S as John has been doing this for quite a while and knows his stuff...not sure how the AEM works as of yet.

i have yet to see a stand-alone ecu that comes with the same features a j&s come with. if not that would've been the ecu i wouldve bought.
i also agree with them working independantly of each other. they dont work together or off of each other. the j&S detects detonation and retards or advances the timing through the distributor. the j&s has the individual knock sensors that go on the motor.

which J&S version do you have
I am running Jun3s with JE12.5s and a Jun P28
Im interested as I cant get the car to run very well on pump gas
I think compression may be higher due to the few thousands thick
ceramic coated pistons tops
and the timing is way retarded right now
10 degrees for pump gas 94 octane

The AEM does the same thing plus you can have it retard timing based on boost as well. As an added benifit you don't need an extra sensor because it uses the factory one.

All you have to do is read the manual and set up the knock control yourself. IMO, buying any black box to go with an AEM EMS is a waste of money. There's no black box out there that does something the AEM doesn't, in fact the AEM does it all better.

The EMS retards timing based on knock and boost. You have to program the amount of retard and record a knock count that you know to be safe as a baseline. That's it. If you want to do it based off of each cylinder, you need to instal extra knock sensors, but yes it'll do it.

The AEM EMS will do anything that you program it to. All you have to do is install the sensor, configure the ECU (what pin it's on, what voltage you expect and what you want it to adjust based off of that voltage). It's totally user defineable and it's capabilities are pretty much only limited to how many unused pins are available and how creative you want to get. I don't think there's anything that anyone would want to do that the system can't handle. Want to convert a Honda to MAF? No problem. Want an EGT on every cylender and have fuel trims adjusted accordingly? No problem. Want a wideband in the car? Cool.

I own one and have it in the car now. I'll be dynoing it in a month or two, but right now it's drivable with no knock. I was intending to do it sooner but my wife had our baby a month early so spending money on car stuff will have to wait a little bit.
