JDM B18c question. Not smog legal no more in California?
I want to buy a JDM B18c (GSR) from a local buyer here. He stated that California no longer allow JDM engines to be smog legal other than the car it is meant to be in. If I were to do a JDM B18c swap in my 95 Civic. Is it true that it is not smog legal according to BAR? I heard this came into effect this month. I heard even if you have all the USDM smog equipment. It will not be overlooked other than the fact that its a JDM motor and can not be used here in California. Can anyone confirm this?
if it wasnt on the car it was meant to be on then they wont even bother making it legal. Wow, talking about being strict. **** haha

sure, where can i get a 1 stamp anywhere. I heard Honda use a special tool to stamp numbers on those blocks. if thats the case, stolen blocks would be circulating around the honda community
yes this is true... for example if you own a gsr and you get a jdm b18c then you will be ok. otherwise you are in troube.
all this new news sucks, but what about a b16a3 obd2 in to a civic ex 96+? same as the si, only difference is the drum brakes and engine..+ obd2a to b
it has to be same year or newer than your car. But on top of that JDM engines from a different model car can no longer be used in a USDM car. For example, if you want to do a swap with a JDM ITR motor into your 95 Honda Civic Hatch. Will no longer be good in california. But to get around this, you need to get your car BAR'd with a USDM motor and then if later once you get the BAR stamp. Swap it out for the JDM motor. (But you didnt hear it from me) haha
Thats focken great.....send and sell all your **** this way 4 cheap price...j/k..
I guess buy jdm internal **** if dey dont check there....and you have a jdm mtr in the mind, heart, n spirit.

California Certification
A federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified (federal or 49–state) engine cannot be used in a vehicle that was originally certified for California.

Just order ur JDM Motor and then pull the internals out and put them into a USDM block. Problem solved.
so say I want a jdm b16a2 that is offered in a 99-00 usdm civic si and put it into a 93 honda civic and have the smog equip for a cal legal 99-00 si it would pass as long as it passes the sliffer?
can they tell the difference between usdm engine and jdm engine if they are both b16a2?

so instead of buying a JDM motor, spend your money on rebuilding the internals of your existing motor. Yea i have a stock GSr in there....little do they know its a GSR yea, but it bored out to 2.0L has 12:1 compression, and a fully rebuilt head!
