Rim width and diameter question. Rules and Regulations
okay, this has been bugging me since this past sundays autox in Philli. i actually got a chance to see first hand the rim width that the mini coopers are running for HS. no way in hell is it close to stock width. the diameter size is right but the mini's are running about a hole inch wider then stock.
in the rules:
13.4
Any type wheel may be used provided it complies with the following:
it is the same width and diameter as standard, and as installed
(including wheel spacers if applicable) it does not have an offset
more than +/- 0.25 inch from a standard wheel for the car. The
resultant change in track dimensions is allowed.
for sure they are running a 15x7 or 15x8 SSR rim. no way in hell a stock non-s mini cooper has that wide of a rim. mini's have like a 15x5.5 or 15x6 rim.
so how the hell is this legal? and im pretty sure all the mini's that run in nationals run this. and since im pretty sure this is illegal, i should protest this against all the mini's, right?
this is just to say that the rules are supposed to be black and white, no gray area. and quoting from the rule book, it looks like they are cheating?
please clearyfiy this for me.

I don't think dealer installed optional wheels are considered "standard" for this, but if there was a factory option package that included larger wheels they could be using that allowance.
Either way, if you feel that they are cheating, lodge a protest after your next event.
I believe the factory 16s are 16x6.5. Not certain on that number though, and never bothered to look at the 15s or optional 17s.

yeah, that was the other thing that i was thinking. dealer options.
which does throw this rule out the window for the mini's since it looks like even the standard mini's can run the JWC rims as an options. will dealer options at least.
man i might be pissing a lot of guys off after this weekends Eastern State's Championships.
this is just saying that it make's it kind of unfair for everyone else. mini's have a ton of wheel options when you have other cars that only have a few. almost force's a person to run a mini to be competitive.

Before protesting, I'd get on paper if possible all the available option wheel sizes. That is, if I'm reading that right, and if "option wheels" are a legal size change for HS.
"factory option" yes, "dealer option" no..
and do you know for a FACT 100% what the width of the wheels they are running are?

I do not see any Mini Coopers in HS when you ran on Sunday in the results.
I'd becareful about lodging a protest until you have all your facts right. I would guess the Philly guys know the rules pretty darn well. I highly doubt anyone would be cheating, although it could happen.
What size tires were they running? Check that out and maybe casually ask what size wheels they are running and what kinda/type.

for example look at the shelby mustang it rules Fstock now...
SSR comps do come in 15 x 6 which i dont think is cooper stock size but they do make 16 x 6.5 which is a cooper size
if your gonna run the eastern championship have documentation ready and find the person working protest at impound ... and prepare to get it if you didnt thoroughly check your competitors wheel widths... r comps can make wheels seem wider than they really are
do you think it will be worth it? how far away are you from trophies?

sometimes it can be difficult, but generally dealer options are those little boxes you check off at the dealer and generally factory options are like sport suspensions, LSD, etc.
hence why you can't run a front "R" package spoiler on an ES miata because from 90-97 it was technically a "dealer" option, but not factory.. don't get me started..
yeah, it's a major pain in the butt. technically all of the older hondas had dealer installed AC, but it's a comfort/convenience think which is why it is allowed.
no didn't protest. just went down there for the experience, and got offered to co drive with one of the mini cooper guys. was a great experience. oh,and i did ask the owner of that mini cooper about the rims. he's running the 16in rims, what width i don't remember but im pretty sure now that it's legal cause of the dealer options.
and are you sure about the rim width being .5 wider? i thought all 14in honda rims ran a 5.5 width? the offset on the other hand, im not 100% sure on. im now hoping that it's in the +/- 5* offset.
if you go to hondaautomotiveparts.com in the directory for a 90 EX it states the rim width is 14x5, HX is 14x5 1/2.. sorry man.
i rememberd cause my stupid CRX Si rims are 14x5.

yeah,
. damn, sucks big webo's.
damn stupid rim limitation rules
will, then anyone want to buy a set of HX's with 205/55/14 hoosier A6's? shoot me an offer.
sorry man.
keep the tires and just look for some integra rims that ar 14x5 or CRX Si dubs.
or if you've got the money, TE37's. ahahaa.
