Went out to start my car yesterday and for some reason it just wouldn't start. The engine cranks but doesn't fire. Figured I must have flooded the engine or something, I've had similar problems before, so I let it sit overnight and went out this morning to try again. The first time the engine started like it normally does, hopped up to maybe 2k rpms, and then sputtered and died, and then went back to not starting. During this whole time, except when the engine started like it normally does, the D4 light on the dash was blinking. I've looked around and its seems that on 94s and above the D4 blinking means a tranny issue. Is that the same case for 90-93s? And that wouldn't keep the engine from starting?

 

Have you checked the ignitor in the distributor for the engine cranking problem?And for the d4 light blinking you could have a bad TCM.
