Default New Cat Info

I have a full exhasut system, and a CAI.
Before the summer if over, I plan on replacing the CAT and the headers.

I want to get either a Magnaflow, or a Carsound.

My concern with the cat is will it bolt straight up or will I have to get it welded on there?

Has anyone had any experience with replacing CAT's. I could use the info.

Thanks

Magnaflow is Carsound. Most aftermarket cats are universal and need to be welded in.

I saw a thread on here somewhere where a company sold the Carsound Converters with flanges already welded on. I cant find it now though.

Do high flow CAT's produece more horsepower too?

If you find it with flanges, you will typically pay more. As for more power, when they are "high flow" the necks are welded in different on the ends, which makes them flow better. They will make a little bit more power. Probably nothing you can notice, unless you have a lot of hp.

Talk to Dave at Sms-products, still waiting for him to get back on my quote for my cat, but great guy & great products. He uses magnaflow cats and welds flanges to fit your car along with the proper 02 bungs, so direct bolt-on. you can purchase replacement cats from him or order high flow cats all the way down to 200 cell cats.

you can buy them as Universal or Direct Bolt on type..universal is way cheaper but u will have to weld on flanges and the direct bolt on type is way more expensive..

i bought my universal Mag cat for $149shipped..the direct bolt on would of been $3xx if i went that way

i'm sure they wouldn't be legal in ca. can't have anything that breathes freely there, . other than that, i've seen those ebay test pipes work pretty good, for the most part. the worst i've seen is the flange is 180* turned, so it needed cut, and rewelded. but that isn't expensive if you know how to weld.

It will be ok if you, yourself, intall it on a california obd1 car, but if you take it to a muffler shop, its illegel for them to install that cat. A lot depends on the shop though, how much they are willing to bend the rules. At my shop, we do install it if we know the person..
