Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I could not find any info on the topic.

I would like to have an extra set of wheels for my 07 Si to put race rubber on for use on track. Can anyone tell me what the smallest wheel size (diameter) is that will fit on my 07 Si? Take-offs are a lot more common in the smaller sizes. Thanks for the help.

 

go with 16s. u can probably fit 15s if u have enough clearance from the design to clear the calipers

 

That's a weird vernacular. Are you saying you get a better traction with smaller rims/bigger tires?

I believe 15" is the smallest.

 

whoever has 15s i salute you. our caliper is huge so unless the offset and design is that wicked... 16s will be the safe bet

 

15's and a slight grind to the calipers is the only way i know or have heard of ANY 15" wheel clearing our calipers. i do NOT suggest gringing the calipers. maybe, maybe extended wheel studs and a small spacer?

 

When I mentioned take-offs, i was referring to tires. A lot of the racers at the NASA-SE events I go to will change out their race rubber after only a few races. Most of the time what they are throwing out is still good for a few weekends of driving.

I see sets of ex 16" steelies on Ebay all the time. Was thinking about purchasing some for the winter.

 

The problem with using steelies though is that they don't allow for enough ventilation to the brakes. A friend of mine used steelies on track and melted a set of brake pads after 1-2 sessions. The pads should have lasted the entire weekend plus a few weeks.

Steelies should be fine for driving around town in the winter though. Just don't try to use them as your track wheels or if you are going to be doing a lot of heavy braking.


So I guess there is no way that anything smaller than 16" wheels will fit on the Si?

 

there wouldnt be any point in running steelies since they weigh more than the stock si wheels.

 

Anything smaller than stock on a fg than stock will look bad and just wayy to small

Stock spec with beefier tires is always an option. The smaller sidewall will yield less under heavy lateral loads, just to throw that in there.

Exactly right......looks don't matter so much on track.



Stock spec is not really ideal here. I am looking for the smallest size wheels that will fit because pretty much all of the used race rubber I would be able to get would be for wheels that are less than 17" in diameter. I think most would be 15" with some in the 16" range. I have yet to run across someone currently running 17" race rubber on their car.

so u want 15s so u can get tires easier? the question really should be about diameter, but more so width. a 16x8+35 would be a good wheel to run or something of that size.

 

Go with the same diameter as the spare. If Honda deemed it fit to mount a 15" spare onto this civic then it will fit.

i've seen 15's for drag. arent the spare tire 15's

 

i thought the spares for the si are 16" and for the regular ones they are 15"

 

I was just saying to go with the spare diameter. I don't know definitively the diameter of the but to use it as a guideline.

 

just gotta be carefull of the wheel off sets on 15's. Just guessing but a mid offset (+25-35) range. but wheels will stick out farther, but can run a wider wheel for better traction...

 

Matauz over at 8thcivic tried some 15s and he said they would not fit. some people suggested switching to an RSX caliper in the front. no idea if this would work or not. grinding just sounds like a bad idea.
