did my tuner bullshit me?
i ave the following mods on my car;
skunk2 stage 2 cams
skunk 2 springs and retainers
ferea valves
golden eagle valve guides
440cc injectors
blox intake manifold
golden eagle ls/vtec conversion kit
4-1 headers
ngk plugs
eyden oil catchcan
JE 12-5-1 pistons and rings
goldeneagle crank support
act stage 1 clutch
crome ecu
i might be missing some things.
my tuber tuned the car and after he dynoed it he said that he cant set vtec under 6100 because i dont have cam gears. i am pretty sure thats b.s but i just needed a second opinion. my power band sucks 6100 to 8400.
did he bullshit me and if he did what can i do to get my 400 dollars back or should i have him tune it the right way? the tune was very disappointing.......

Maybe there's more explanation behind that. Maybe he " knew " that if he were to set vtec lower than that. . he'd have to fiddle with timing to make it benefit your set up, and that maybe cam gears would make it possible. But. . any questions you wanna ask, HE's the man to ask, since he's the one that gave you that suspicious line, AAANDD took your money in the process.

With this set up why wouldn't you have cam gears? I'm guessing the cams are not pro 2's? He probably could have set it lower but you might have lost power without the cam gears.
What kind of numbers did you make?
It would help if you posted your dyno print out so we can see what's going on with your toruqu/HP curves...

Sounds kinda like your tuner's an idiot. Cam gear adjustment rarely gets double-digits, even if the cams are machined wrong. The secondary (vtec) lobes very well not make enough power under 6100. SKS2's have larger primaries, which would move the best vtec engagement point up.
Best way to tell is to get a graph with vtec set low and high, then overlay the 2 graphs. The point where the secondaries and primaries make the same power is generally the best vtec x-over point.

I think that it a pretty good number for an ls vtec since i'm assuming its all motor?

It would seem that if you spent the money you already have in to it that a couple hundred more for some good cam gears would be worth it.
I think that he is likely 1 or 2:
1. Doesn't know what he is doing and is bullshitting you
2. He couldn't make the power he thought he should with the tune and is blaming it on cam timing.

Why don't you make him a deal? If he can't make bigger numbers with the gears, then you don't pay him for the next tune. That kind of pressure might make him think twice about trying to **** with you.
It seems like he is implying that you are missing out on some serious power by not having the gears. Tell him at least 30 more WHP or no more business.
BTW, when are you going to post your dyno chart. It would be a hell of a lot easier if we saw your torque and HP curves...

well he set your vtec at 6100 because thats were the powerband needed it...he lost power any lower....190whp on a dyno dynamics with your set up is not low....i know this because i was there when he tuned your car....if you were disapointed with his tune, you should have mentioned it to him...
