# 3 Cyl Temp High? Anyone else?
Hi,
I hope someone can help. I have been around Honda's for over 15 years now and have come across a wierd problem with my 97 GSR.
The #3 cylinder reads about 150-200 degress hotter than any of the other three cylinders, even at idle. I get the temp by using a infrared thermometer on the header.
The car blew a bone stock GSR motor @ 125k, and I am the second owner since 88k. No mods, all stock, and the original owner just ran it as a commuter. Wierd or what?
It is an OBD2 car. I have swapped inj between cyls, and even repinned #3 & #4 at the ECU and ran the inj plug from 3 on 4, and the high temp continues.
The old motor had a ton of carbon on the inside of #3 and burned an exh valve, i.e. lean condition I think.
I have taken temps on 2 other b18's and they vary only about 20 degrees.
Any ideas?
I did try an OBD1 computer, and no difference...
HELP before this nice low mile H-motors JDM motor pops too!

i don't think that could be it, he said he swapped injectors and it still was hotter. is that even an issue? i mean, maybe all the exhaust is gathering near that particular port before exiting. idk. but have you looked at other peoples engines and compared theirs to yours?

My #3 is about 150 more at idle, and over 200 degrees hotter after a short WOT pull.
I run a DC Sports ceramic header.
Thanks for reply.

if it were me at this point, if at all possible...pull the head off and look at ur valves and piston, cause if it is leaning out, its just gonna burn the valve and/or piston again and your gonna be right back at square one, its better to be safe then sorry. If it is leaning it out maybe try a new intake manifold and see if that does anything...i wouldnt go as far as buying a performance blox IM, just barrow one if possible or grab one from a junk yard.
