approximately 2 months ago went to a oil change place where i go on a regular basis for my oil change they replaced the oil filter but didn't put oil in the car when they tried to start the car it wouldn't start found out they blew the engine by doing this, i got the engine replaced but about a month ago once i got the car back the check engine light would never go off so i take it back to the place they claim they cant get the check engine light off but theres no problem with the car. I've noticed since i got the car back she wasn't riding the way she used to now, like im on the highway and she is over 3000 rpms just doing 50 but when i release my foot from the gas she slows down automatically which is something that never happend before. Friday im driving the car im at a stoplight and im literally flooring it but the car takes forever to get passed 1st gear im wondering if its the transmission or the engine and is the company that did the oil change responsible, the company that replaced the engine responsible or am i the 1 to blame. All feedback would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

 

The first thing you want to do is check the Tranny fluid. It should be red.

Yes. The automatic transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles no matter what. The fluid should be bright red in color and level should be at the top of the crosshatch markings on the transmission dip stick.

After you check/change the transmission fluid, the second order of business will be to hook the car up to an OBD-2 scanner and determine what error codes are causing the Check Engine light to stay on. The shop that replaced the engine should have told you what codes were stored in the computer. Did they?

How many miles are on the car?

 

I just checked the fluid its like the color of syrup so I'm going to change the fluid. They didn't tell me any codes were stored in the computer. I have 99,262 miles on the car. I want to thank both of you for assisting me in finding out what's wrong with my car. Tomorrow I'm going to take it to my mechanic to see whta codes he comes up with.

 

'96-97 model year Hondas and Acuras are covered up to 14 years or 150,000 miles for most emissions system problems that cause the Check Engine light to come on. Your car should still fall within the federal extended emissions warranty guidelines, so keep in mind that you may be able to get Honda to fix most of the error codes for free (examples: P0420 Catalyst efficiency low, P0401 EGR insufficient flow detected, P0300 Random/multiple misfires, P1156 Primary oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction, etc.).

The only thing that they won't cover under the emissions warranty extension is the transmission - if the error codes are transmission related, you're on your own (examples: P0740 Torque converter clutch circuit malfunction, P0730 Incorrect gear ratio, etc.).

 

so would it make more sense for to go to honda an see what the problem is i can take it their tomorrow.
