hi guys i need clean or restor my headlights i get the plastX and work but the headlights always look dirty...... some body said sand the clearcoat but i need more opinions please

 

Yes, a good wetsanding kit will go along way. usually you can buy these kits at any parts store. they have instructions and just follow them and you should be good.

Its simple man. Wet sand with like 1500 than 2000 take ur time sanding. Try not to sand in the same spot to long. Hose them down dry them up, than buff them with like plasticx or something. I had to buff mine like 2/3 times before they looked good

well ive used the method from the article a few times now and the only thing that i do differently is that i use rubbing compound and polishing compound right after the 2000 grit wet sanding. Then i use the Plast-X. Seems to work a lot better than going to the Plast-X right away. Gets the light looking a whole lot clearer. Here is what i got, before and after.

 

I used to wet sand headlights and buff them out, too. One day, I had some junk headlights and decided to do the carb cleaner on a rag trick. Takes a whopping 2 minutes to do both headlights with nearly the same result. Yes, buffing them out will look a little better BUT unless you put a clear coat back over the lights, they'll start to fade back out very quickly.

If you do carb cleaner, here's how I do it:

1. Clean off the headlights and get rid of all bugs and dirt.
2. Mask around the area to preserve the wax.
3. Fold a microfiber towel so it's just a little wider than the headlight.
4. Spray carb cleaner on the microfiber towel; soak it down on the edge that will touch the headlight.
5. In one smooth but quick motion, drag the microfiber across the headlight. If you do this too many times, you will actually start to melt the plastic and ruin the light.
6. Remove masking.

After a couple days, when the plastic completely dries back up, the lights will be nearly crystal clear. At first, they'll look a lot better but a little hazy still.
