This was in the glove box. Sorry for the pic. (no scanner)

*EDIT Scanned Instructions.

Anyone know how to re-program a keyfob?
Unfortunately my shell did not come with one.
Looking to buy one, curious if newer model keyfob work? (96-00)

Does anyone even have photos of the 92-95 civic keyfob? I cant find anything.
Can anyone translate this document?

I see the photo of the car and the door handle, but the other image you posted has a bad link.

With a good scan I can run it through my Japanese character recognition program and then a translator to spit out something at least partially legible.

The closest I can get you is an image of the key fob is from the EG Honda Access catalogue:

Some photos of the inside of the door and handle would be helpful, given how ridiculously rare that option is. It would give the envious types among us something to gaze at.

Interestingly, it appears that it might be infra-red (IR) driven, given that it has that sensor in the handle, as opposed to radio-frequency (RF) driven, which does not require a sensor. Note the range is not that far! Two metres according to the diagram.

Is there a sensor anywhere on the front or back of the car, too?

Fascinating.

I have more questions:

  1. It is a 3-wire connection? What are the wire colours? I presume that a click of the button will unlock all doors. I believe that on JDM and EDM vehicles, the "power locks" switch is built in to the unlock switch (ie., no separate button like on USDM coupes), so triggering the unlock switch manually (w/ key) or with the IR remote would power-unlock all doors.
  2. I'd like to see where the wires coming from the IR "eye" connects to on the latch (or wherever). I can then draw you up a circuit diagram. Is there an IR "eye" on the passenger side, too? What about on the back or front?
  3. Does the IR "eye" sit on a small circuit board? (Presumably, but you'll have to take off those two screws.) Trying to find the right "code" to unlock your doors will be nearly impossible ... it will conceivably be like trying each programming code on a Universal VCR remote for every VCR ever made, and pressing every button to see if it works. OK, bad analogy, but you get the idea -- there are many many possible codes.

That said, a possible retrofit exists - IR keyless entry was popular in the early 90's. Interestingly, it is also considered more "secure" as it is less possible for thieves to intercept the signal.

They were found on Cryslers, such as the Jeep Cherokee. Here's a link for someone who converted IR to RF (not what you want to do, but a good look at the internals). http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums....php?p=4348433

Likely a better option would be to adapt a remote lock for a home, it seems like there are a lot of them... http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1B3GGGL_enCA237CA237&q=i nfrared+(keyless+OR+remote)+locks&btnG=Search&meta =

There should be a reprogramming option available. However, since it is JDM your solution will come from across the sea...I am sure just about any Japanese Honda dealership would have the procedure in their service manual as many people loose or damage their key fobs and they have to be replaced.
But in order to get that information you will likely need to contact someone overseas.

Sorry man...but it is a wickedly cool option that no one else will have.

Yes, above post makes an excellent point - be sure to explore your options with Honda Japan before going with a home-grown solution. In fact, that document you have might say something about what to do if you lose the fob, reprogramming, etc. Know anyone who speaks Japanese?

I've mentioned on H-T before that I have a very close friend that drives a '92 JDM SiR-S, it has the remote keyless entry, its got a different keyfob then the one pictured in the brochure though, its smaller and rounder, it has one button. Works up to around 3' away and you must point it directly at the sensor, its IR and it unlocks both doors at the same time. I'll try to get pics from him later.

Edit, the pic NOFX posted below is the same as the one my friend has.

clayton bigsby has a car up for sale with this same keyless entry system. He has a transponder that is being sold with the car. Perhaps if you ask him nicely he will supply you with any numbers on it or photos of the remote.

This is what i translated those instruction to: Broken English.

Using: ABBYY FineReader Pro V9 (converted documents into pdf text)
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ (to convert the Japanese characters to English)

1st page 4th row from the bottom it talks about loosing. and a silver serial basically much like today's keys have. (u keep the aluminum piece, if you loose the keys take that to get some made)

This also talks about 5 columns
I would take a guess that is 5 number (as in 5 number digit to the code)

on the side of the infered unit is a 5 number.
I would bet this is the code needed to get a keypad.
2A021 As shown on the photo below (a stamp style, not a set number like the other part numbers that are apart of the mold)

Interesting, very rare. However I believe but not sure but i think that this only came in the 20th anniversary civic EG. 20 years after the first civic so i believe it would be 92/93 ?

FOBulous! Now all you have to do is make it work.

I would bet that www.gspeedcorp.com could help you out with the programming. It seems logical that if they can get you the shell and fob that they also know the reprogramming steps.

If they don't then they likely know somebody who does.

And reading that PDF that has been translated would help...but it seems that a translation of the translation is in order.

If you open the fob like you were going to replace the battery...are there any DIP switches inside? It may be that you simply have to adjust the DIP switches in the FOB sort of like you do on some garage door remote controls....

Great progress, great thread.

I have compared the wiring for the power door lock relay that you have pictured above to my sources for wiring diagrams of the power door locks and relays (for CDM/USDM LHD & EDM LHD/RHD). They are completely different. I don't think there's one single wire in the same place. Very odd.

This means that either JDM vehicles in general are wired differently from CDM/USDM/EDM (ie., they use a completely different power lock relay), or JDM vehicles with the remote lock feature use a different power lock relay.

The plot thickens. I'll try to get to the bottom of it.

If someone could take a photos of a RHD door harness that is NOT Equiped with the IR handle that would be nice to see the difference in wiring.

I have not got the keyfob yet, that photos was from gpspeed confirming that part was indeed what i was wanting to purchase. When it arrives will post more photos with cover on/off.
