If you can get the car through customs here in Hawaii, it is only a matter of getting a safety check to get the car registered.

any who the simplist piece of info i got from some guy who i seen on the street with a type r...and what he simply said..is to change the engine to usdm specs..pretty much...he gave me some numbers and locations where it would be easy to get this done..

oh..and i didnt use caps happy...fawk.

 

 

my buddy is making the purchase as soon as the guy he is buying it off of gets in a 98 spec db8.. for those who know how to or can help in any way through the registration process please your help is wanted...

Lol he swapped the caps for bold lettering. Lol, just Lol. But getting a car registered is a pain in the ***. Why do you think Skylines are so much here? Deputy Registrars charge like $20,000 just to do the work on it, and with you being in Cali I don't see it being any fun.

But the problem is that he will need a title transfer (Japanese to English) and customs papers, and actual proof of the DOT compliant repairs. If he can get around that stuff he is good. Otherwise he will need a DR to sign off on it, which won't be easy. With Cali being as hard as they are with inspections and such, and I don't think it will be so easy. Nothing on JDM cars are DOT compliant. So right off the bat he needs new tailights, head lights, brake lines, emissions passible motor, and a bit more. He may even need to swap in a USDM cluster for the initial inspection.
