Default b16a Y1 axle problem help

On medium acceleration, I get extreme vibration from the drivetrain. I've got a B16a with a Y1 transmission, and I've got axles from raxles.com which are specifically made for the Y1 transmission. Seems like the axles keep going on me, and the shuddering on acceleration is not good. Is the axle too short or too long or something. Should I take out a shim or add one in, or do I need to experiment. I'd rather not experiment as taking out the axle isn't that easy. Let me know if anybody has any ideas or experience. Thanks

BTW, I've got Neuspeed Race springs.

well the biggest issue would be what mount kit are you using?

HCP? HAsport?

and why would you be 'shimming' anything?

Place Racing mounts, I don't think Raxles is the problem, it looks to me like they make very high quality axles, which are made to proper HasPort specs. Problem is I don't have Hasport mounts.

eh, well....if it's PP mounts, you should really be using PP spec axles. They have their own axle criteria that (as far as I know anyway) is unlike others.

I'm pretty sure this is where your problem is.....either get PP spec axles, or a Hasport mount kit.

EDIT: read that too fast....I assumed you were saying you used PP mounts with hasport spec axles...

So I would still either go PP spec axles, or Hasport mounts. Other things to consider...

was your car ever in a wreck or anything which could cause something to be out of wack??

also, not to sound offensive, but are you sure you've got the axles in properly?

Your springs have nothing at all to do with this.

Are you sure this is an axle problem, and not some other driveline problem?

every one with place mounts just use 90-93 teg non abs axles. So just try those from raxles since it's under warranty. Then see if it goes away. But you need a s1 intermediate shaft!!

There you go, that is what I am using exactly, and no problems!

Yes, that's if you have an S1 intermediate shaft, if you have a Y1 you're supposed to be able to use a hybrid combination of 90-93 and 86-89 Integra shafts and joints, the combination was listed on the axles section of the Hasport website(that section is now down). I don't know.

What got me worried, was I've always had a vibration/shudder at 2500 to 4000 when applying heavy engine torque. I always wondered if it was a problem with the axles, and then the passenger side one went bad(came with the first engine swap which the previous owner performed). Now that I put the new Raxles axle in, the vibration is worse. I compared the axles and they look the exact same to me.

? How could I not install them right? When I put them in, both end pushed up right against the seal. No slack. Is their anything else I could have gotten wrong. I've changed axles plenty of times before in this and other cars, I don't think I got it wrong.

Sorry for the slow responses on my part, my work is now monitoring internet traffic and blocking sites we shouldn't be going to.

Thanks a lot for the input guys, hybrid axles aren't cheap and I can't afford to go through another set in the next six months. And I autocross too.

How SLAMMED is your Suspension????

Did you pop off the dust sheilds behind the knuckles?

Ive used 88-89 Integra Axles for the drivers side, and 90-91 Integra Axles for the passenger side in many of my swaps with the Y1 tranny and intermediate shaft. They have posed no problem. Then again, most of my customers don't SLAM their cars down to the ground with their axles resting at a bent position. The more angle that an axle has to rotate on....the more lost hp and friction.

The drivetrain is the most efficient when the axles are closer aligned with the tranny and wheels.

Otherwise, just get a hold of a S1/J1 or LS intermediate shafts if you want a shorter intermediate shaft.

By the way, these swaps were done using HaSport motor mounts.

You can get a S1 intermidiate shaft from a local recking yard, that's where I picked mine up for $100. If you have a 90-91 sedan EX you can use the JDM EF9 axles with no problem they fully seat in the steering knuckle and don't cause a "lockup" like the Si's do. Or you can swap over the 90-91 sedan EX rotor's,calipers, knuckles, and use the JDM EF9 axles. I ordered my swap from http://www.hondamotorsonline.com and they come with the EF9 axles, if you try and use them on anything other than the "EX" you will have complete drivetrain lockup. So they are good for cores on a set of rebuilt 90-93 integra axles, and use a S1 intermediate shaft, with removing the dust seal on the outer joint, and removing the "seating ring" on the inside edge of the steering knuckle.

Heres my setup:

HASport Mounts
YS1 Tranny
95 Del Sol VTEC Intermediate shaft
94-01 Integra Driver Side Axle, 86-89 Integra Passeger side
Dust cover removed on both sides

Works fine so far. Also, 95 Del Sol VTEC, 94-01 Integra LS/GSR, 97-99 CRV (all manuals) are the same. Also Type R's are the same as the above but the shaft diameter is bigger.

Just changed out all four ball joints, no help with the driveline shudder. both axles seem to be in good condition, and I think I have the right ones. Is there anything else which can contribute to driveline shudder?

If you have some contamination like oil on your clutch disc you can get a shudder. It will cause a grab/slip shudder. Check that out?

Okay, just figured out the problem, the people who did the original swap used 90-93 Integra axles on both sides and removed the dust ring/spacer on the passenger's side. Now this is what you're supposed to do if you have an S1 intermediate shaft, but I have a Y1 intermediate shaft. Knowing that I have a Y1 intermediate shaft, I ordered axles from raxles which are for a Y1 intermediate shaft.

Unfortunatley, it looks as though the dust ring/spacer on the passenger's side axle has been removed and it should not have been. I went to grab the axle and check for play and there was none. This was because the axle had been extended too far(b/c there was no spacer) and caused the joint to pop out of position too far out and stick there. I got the joint back in, but where can I find a dust ring/spacer to put on my hub.

Will the honda dealer have it? Does anyone in the Austin, TX area or near the Austin Texas area have an Si hub dust ring/ spacer that they will sell me? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
