so i know what kind of silicone i like in *****... but what kind of silicone does my oil pan gasket thats being replaced like? thanks in advance

Any good hardware store or auto parts store should have something along the lines of "High temperature silicone sealant" that should work perfectly.

 

Honda Bond. Motorcycle/ATV shops usually have it on hand and usually cheaper than the Honda dealership parts counter. Got a tube last weekend for $17, dealerships generally charge about $22.

Ironically, I bought it for my B16A oil pan gasket.

That's what they use from the factory, but no reason to spend 4X the amount of money when high temp silicone will work.

 

yeah may go with the high temp stuff... just dont want to get some trashy stuff thats going to break up and get in my oil.

 

I would highly suggest using Hondabond HT. The problem with most other RTV's is that they will smear off or not stick properly. Usually when most other RTV's get oil on them they just goop off whereas Hondabond HT will stick and not run off. Also, Hondabond HT is what they used from the factory on the valve cover and oil pan gasket, so why not re-use what was on there to begin with?

 

If you don't want to use HondaBond because of price or availability, I recommend you use Permatex Ultra Grey. It's the supposed equivalent to HondaBond. I have used it with great results (on friends cars that were too tight to buy HB....)

"Mitsubishi Engine & Transmission Silicone Gasket Sealant" is a damn fine silicone too.

 

It's a little softer and runnier than hondabond when it comes out of the tube. They both set up fairly similar but the UltraGrey is a little softer when set up. They both work great.

 

man I hated hunting down the answer to your same question. I ended up biting the bullet and buying honda bond at the dealer. it was 11 bucks for a 10-12 oz tube

 

Pretty sure HondaBond only comes in the 1.9 ounce toothpaste tube. At least that's all I've ever gotten.
