Default Another Low Oil Pressure Question

I first installed this oil pressure gauge in january and it had wiring issues to begin with. Like it would take a good 15 min of driving to get any signal out of it but once it did the readings seemed fine. Like 50psi at 3k in 5th gear. Lately it's been starting to get readings by warmup, but the needle will bounce around randomly/ just go dead. So clearly a wiring issue there although the sources for power/ground were fine when i checked with a multimeter during the setup. Anyways today I was driving on the highway and saw that i was getting just over 25psi on at 3k in 5th and about 12 psi at 2k in fourth. I feel like these are off. Now based on searches, it sounds like the oil pressure sender/switch just tells you when oil is too low. Does it really have nothing to do with "sending" oil? That's what searches are telling me.

it's weird that the multimeter showed everything as fine and then it didn't work out...i'll try to find another ground tomorrow. the power line should be fine though since i tapped into the same source that lights up the gauges. the lighting is always working fine.
