Couple Questions for Honda-Tech??
I have a auto 94 accord Lx w/ a jdm f22b sohc. I just wanted to know if the TPS is out of adjustment will that make the tranny shift messed up. Another thing is that the car has a high idle only in park or neutral, if its in drive or reverse its fine. One more thing i wanted to know if the car had no tranny fluid in it and you start the car up in neutral will that mess up the tranny? Thanks for any help!!
I think I know the answer to your high idle problem. Look where the throttle cables are, there should be two. The one closest to the block is your normal throttle cable, and it runs to the throttle butterfly valve or whatever its called.
Sounds like the one you need to adjust is the OTHER one. The one closer to the cabin - it is for the transmission. That one tells the tranny what's going on with your throttle so it knows when to downshift or upshift. If it is too tight it will cause your tranny to perform poorly, and it will also cause it to idle high only in park and neutral.
One time I heard that if you tighten that cable your shifts will be smoother so I tried it, and I tightened it way too much and I got the same symptoms you are describing. I was scared to shift it from park into reverse thats how high it would idle, and it would JERK into gear. But while in gear the idle went way down, closer to where it shoulda been. So good luck man let me know if that helps!
