need help with power to amp
so i got a headunit from a fellow ht member and the unit turns on and works fine and the guy gave me lots of speaker wire and a cable with a red and black rca cable with the 3rd wire. the head unit requires you to use an external amp. so i got a 800 watt amp from ebay. my problem is that i ran the 3rd wire to the amp and put it to the remote plug and the head unit has a remote wire too. so i attached them toger and ran the ground to a bolt in my trunk next to the amp. im not getting any power tho. the red poaer light doesnt come on when i turn the car and radio on. do i have the wire pluged in the wrong place plz help!!!!!!
did you run a fused power cable from the battery to the amp?
you should have a fused power cable(rec.4 gauge) from the battery to the amp. then you should have the same gauge, or bigger, ground cable from the amp to the chassis(as short as possible). also need to run the rca's from the headunit to the amp, as well as the remote turn on lead.
you can check your ground with a multimeter to make sure its good.

rca cable with 3 wires? is the amp turn built into the rca?
wait i know what you did... you didnt run a power wire to the amp.
the is a remote wire. im guessing its built into the rca. that turns the amp on with the deck THE AMP IS NOT POWERD BY IT
then the power wire with a built in fuses.
then a ground... the ground should be as short as possible with equal size to the power wire.
the power wire should have fuse in it as close to the battery as you can or within 18 inches.
