Default D16A (z6) into 97 Dx Questions...

my stock d16y7 is soon to blow... will a d16a (basically a d16a6 but with vtec, better terms : d16z6) be direct bolt up as far as wiring goes?? questions:

1) Would it be easier to run y7 intake manifold or the D16A manifold? as far as wiring for the plugs etc? are they direct plug & play or are there differences?? also have available a d16a6 intake mani/tb if that helps at all...

2) distributor : for the time being, i would plan on running my stock y7 dist and just having a vtec controller. would i have any problems as far as the firing etc??

3) clutch/flywheel, im currently runnin an 95dx trans on my y7 (its still hydrolic etc...) would the clutch and flywheel from an 89 crx si work?? is there a way to tell for sure??

4) fuel rail and injectors : would i just run my stock injectors and fuel rail or the ones of the d16a??

any input is very very much appreciated... im sure will have more questions along the way, but im planning on really diving into it later this week... thanks!

Either run a 5 speed D16Y8 manifold or any D16Z6/SOHC Vtec ZC/D15B Vtec/D16A Vtec IM, you will have to preform the IACV fix shown here below. (if reusing the stock ECU, which i'd advise against for reasons shown below the easiest thing to do is use an automatic Y8 manifold as you don't have to preform the IACV fix.)

The Y7 distributor doesn't bolt up, not properly anywhy, you can kind of hack it up so it works though. Best idea is to use a D16Z6 distributor with Y7 CYP/CKP/TDC sensors. In terms of Vtec, vtec controllers and RPM activated switches are ancient hacks, if you want vtec to actually work get a Vtec ECU.

As long its an '89 - '00 D-series it'll work, the '88 civics used a different clutch (different transmission input shaft) if you want to confirm slide the clutch disc on the input shaft to make sure it fits.

Either run Y8 injectors, modify the injector clips so they fit OBD1 injectors (shown below) or cut and splice on OBD1 injector clips.

Beware, this swap isn't going to pass emissions in many if any states, especially California, if you really want it to run right you are going to have to run an OBD1 P28 ECU with a conversion harness. You're really much better off dropping in a Y8 if you can find one. You will also have to preform the CKF fix if you are using a USDM OBD2 ECU as shown here ---> http://technet.ff-squad.com/ckftrick.htm
