Default Code 20 question

OK so i was showing my friend how i wired my car to multiport cause hes doing the same thing and i noticed that the light was flashing. counted 20 times. i looked up what it was; 20- Accord Civic CRV CRX Del Sol Odyssey Prelude
90-98 88-98 97-98 88-91 93-97 95-98 92-98
Electrical Load Detector
defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor

but it doesnt specify what exactly it is.. soo if anyone has had any trouble with that code and know what it is, it would help me out alot.

thanks

the electronic load detector is located in the underhood fusebox. you have to replace the fusebox in order to correct the problem. you can find them at your local wrecking yard.

the whole fuse box? i don't believe it. i honestly don't know what the code means, but i have my doubts that its a fuse box that needs replaced. i mean, why?

yes, the electric load detector is in the main under hood fuse box and if it is bad, you need to replace the fuse box - most of the time, the code 20 shows up due to a problem in the charging circuit, like, weak alternator, weak battery, bad ground, etc., and not a bad ELD

i'd say test the battery alternator and if that's not the case, grab a new fusebox from a local yard. i'll end up doing that in the long run. i've got spare alternators and whatnot. hope you get your problem fixed!

alright well i work at oreillys n i used our handy-dandy battery tester.. battery is good and alternator is good as well.. went to check the terminals and the negative came right off.. tightened it down n rechecked. battery had a 58% charge.. so i figured its cause there wasnt a good connection and just needed a charge. drove it around on my lunch break n came back n worked for a few n rechecked and it was at 39%. looked at the positive and noticed that it was loose too... took the battery out n charged it n hooked everything back up nice and tight and no more code... score

BUT.. ever since iv had the car theres been an issue where i can come home on say a thursday and not go anywhere friday and come out saturday and itl be deader than hell.. bought a new battery and alternator when i got the car and theyre both good.. so my question is now.... what the hell could make it do that?

i had the exact same problems and word of advice, dont listen to everyone about your battery and alternator. The ELD goes bad over time, bottom line.

To fix it do the series of steps outlined from the honda service manual.

Basically you are checking for continuity, and proper grounds. If they are all good then you ELD is probably bad and you need to replace the whole fuse box. I just did this in my CRX.

I had a bad ELD and a bad ground. PS i also have 2 fuse boxes i believe to have good ELD's if you need one just PM me
