How much is this EG Hatch worth?
Ok. I might be trading my 2002 GTI 337 edition for an EG hatchback locally. It's a pretty well known car around here, and the person trading it is a nice kid I know so there is no reason to not trust anything about the car.
Anyway, I'm new to hondas. I built my GTI myself, I know alot about VWs, and what they are worth, but barely anything about hondas which is why I started this thread.
On to the car:
The car is a 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback. Not sure what model it was, I'm gonna guess a base model though. No power steering, no A/C, but it has power locks.
Car has been completely torn down, windows out and everything, and professionally resprayed in Ford edge cream paint. The work is FLAWLESS. I mean it- it looks better than had you bought it off the showroom floor in 93, NO LIE.
It has a JDM B16 engine and trans in it from a well known import company, the engine has around 50,000 miles on it, a walrbo 255lph outboard pump, and has a full wire tuck (All done right.) The car itself had around 300 or so thousand miles, but almost every thing in it is new, as when they stripped it, they replaced every nut and bolt apparently and I'd believe it... It has tein basic coilovers, enkei rpf1 wheels, OEM honda civic SI front lip, a carbon fibre duckbill spoiler and hood, and a bride driver's seat. The rest of the interior is vinyl (some sort of rare vinyl I was told by a friend) and the interior is IMMACULATE. By immaculate, I mean the kid literally has the oem floor mats, which are covered by a towell, than a generic floormat, than another towell. He rarely drives the car, maybe once or twice a month. It sits in the garage under a car cover when not driven. The exhaust is stock, it has a nice system in it, and also it will come with a full rear disk conversion including the needed master cylinder. It also has a brand new windshield (already installed.)There is probably more that i'm missing...
I drove it, and it drives very nice with no weird noises or any issues. The ONLY problem with the car is first gear, and ONLY first gear. It won't go into gear unless the car is stopped completely and then you go from 2nd to 1st. After that, it goes right in and functions properly. No other gear noises or grinds or clicks or anything.
In any case, this car is one of the cleanest I've ever seen, as you can probably imagine from my description.
From all of that, I'd like an idea of how much it is worth. My car blue books at 10k stock... and it has over 5,000 worth of mods alone (big turbo, coils, OZ futuras, upgraded fueling and software, etc.) not counting up to date maitenence... I just don't wanna get ripped off. His car is in better overall condition than mine, but there aren't any major problems with my car.
Thanks in advance for being honest, and sorry for the long post lol.

Normal. Not a problem.
yeah youre definitely crazy if you dont take that straight up trade man. Im kinda wondering what the hell the guy is thinkin gettin rid of that car! Go for it!!!
i appreciate the replies, but i'm trying to get an idea of what the cars worth. I know it's a pretty even deal, but letting go of a modded out 2002 GTI (not to mention a special edition, one of 1500 car) for a 1993 Civic is the only thing I'm unsure of, the difference in years.

You should keep your car. When the day comes for you to sell the hatch you wont be getting 9-10 grand for a b16, like u wud get for your vw.. ( I love my hondas) jus giving advice im always after the money. !
not worth it it sounds liek the hatch was done right but its still al pretty basic and cheap mods sell your vw and buy something alot nicer and faster plus have cash left over
Much truth to that, but if its something that you want and intend to keep then that is solely up to you. We all modify our cars knowing full well we will never see anything back out of them, only to be lowballed by fellow enthusiasts who know damn well what the parts cost. It's whatever floats your boat, i could have bought alot more practical things, but the oppurtunity to own a car that i always dreamt of having in my stable came along and i just had to have it. It's the same situation, if it's something you want go for it.
not worth a straight trade.
mods dont increase the value of a car
i fixed up my civic, wasnt overdone, stock motor (although swapped with vtec motor)
brand new paint job
only got 2500 for it.
people didnt care about the new paint, the oem wheels, discs all around. they just know that civics go for 2-3500 around here and mine had over 200k miles.
im gonna say as the others did, if your car is worth 10k, you will probably get offers around 9k then buy that guys hatch for 5k at most
its just not worth more, you could get one for 2k and make it just as nice for not too much money

X2^^^^^ If anything mods decrease the value of the car, because you gotta find that one specific buyer that likes EVERYTHING you did to it. Also, if you have a special edition, id hang onto it. It will only get more rare. If you want a eg hatch, id tell you to go out and buy one for $1000 at a junkyard or something, and build it specifically for you, cuz after all, who doesnt love projects, thats half the fun.
yeah the hatch is really nice, but not an even trade at all, like tyte-s said sell the hitler sweat box and then buy the EG, you'll have the car plus some extra cash in hand.
You sir, are a jackass and probably 15.
To the OP:
http://www.roadfly.com/magazine/3/vw_gti_337.2.html The 337 is a beast and this hatch, as clean as it is mind you, is nothing compared to it. You'll be lucky to get 4,500 for it. Its still a B16. If it had a K then that would be a different story. Don't listen to poor bastards with their dreams set too high, trading your car for this hatch would be a bad move on your part...then again...it IS your money and YOUR car. DO what you want with them. This Forum is a bad place to ask for advice.
Cheers.
