Icon7 What's better str8 pipe or high flow cat?

I recently bought a new exhaust system online and it didn't come with a cat or anything that connects to my headers. My question is whats better to buy a str8 pipe or a high flow cat converter. What's better performance wise. I live in Texas so there's no smog check or anything to pass

Really it depends on the application, i'm going to assume you have a bone stock engine. If i were you i'd leave the cat alone, by putting a straight pipe or high flow cat (resonator) on you may actually see a decrease in low end power, essentially the car will be noticeably slower. If you really desire to have one or the other, i would go with the high flow cat, which is more of a resonator than anything and the car will be less likely to sound like raspy poop.

My bad I guess I should have specified a little better. I swapped a jdm type r motor in my ej2. I also got a whale ***** intake and the 4-1 headers. With that info does your advice change?

actually, it certainly does haha. I would recommend to you the hytech replica header which can be found on ebay for about $200+shipping nowadays. It's length will eliminate the need for a cat or a straight pipe, and it's design will provide you with ample amounts of power.

I really can't waste to much more money I have put a lot into this motor already. I bought a new stage 3 clutch kit that put me back a pretty penny, then I bought this exhaust system just to realize I didn't have a cat. I looked online for a cat and found both the str8 pipe and a high flow cat for around the same price ($100). But I don't know which to go with. Sorry to give you half the story at a time. I guess I'm trying to boost my post numbers

if $100 isn't a problem, i would just bite the bullet and pony up an extra $100 to get something truly worthwhile, surely you have something that's of no use to you laying around that you could sell!

Won't make much of a difference at all but pollution and raspy *** sounding exhaust. But again depends on the motor/engine. As for your typical b-series, d-series vtec or non vtec. You won't feel **** period. Just stick with a high flow cat, as it reduces unburnt chemicals escaping to the atmosphere. And you can save the hassle of more tree hugging bafoons from complaining!
