Default I want to blow up my honda...

Not really, but I've had nothing but problems with this damn car ever since I had the swap done. I took my honda to a shop in Chicago back in 01 or 02 to have a swap done - there aren't any real Honda tuners in my town & I'm by no means a mechanic...apparently the guys that did the swap aren't all that great either. (The car has done a lot of sitting for the past few years.) Ever since I got the car back I've had problems randomly throwing CELs & the car is missing TONS of power. When I turn the key off, it resets the CEL (or at least the light goes off).

I've read on here that you can manually check JDM CELs by jumping the two wires in the plug by the ecu. Everything I've seen says to do this with the car off & then turn it on & read it. Well, since it resets when I turn the key off, I don't know how I can read it. Obviously not being able to read CELs prevents me from further trouble shooting the problem causing this car to under perform. Can I jump those wires with the car on without damaging anything? If not, where the hell do I go from here? No one seems to be able to help me...I've done a lot of searching and can't find an answer to this. If it's been covered before, I apologize for the repost, but would love a link. Thanks in advance.

Here's what I'm working with...96 ek HX with a jdm itr swap...cai, manifold, TB, header, cat, exhaust, cam gears, pulleys, vafc.

Sounds like the swappers hooked your computer's constant power to switched power

the car saves the codes even if you turn it off then on and they dont appear. it just means its a soft code. probably not a big deal but the car still saves the code. the hard codes are the ones that stay on all the time. like misfire etc.. just jump it and see what happens. I had this problem and it ended up being my distributors ignitor.

cool - I'll give it a shot. I'm sure this is the first of many questions. After having several places NOT fix it, I've come to the conclusion that if I want this thing to run right, I'm just going to have to do it myself. (Unless someone here wants to do it? lol)
