Default 1999 civic 5 speed

Hello, Im new to this site and was hoping that some of you pros could help me out, I have a 1999 ex 5 speed civic. My trans has gone out. Im getting it replaced but was wondering if any other kind of work should be done with the trans out of the car, like if you replace the timing belt you do the water pump idea.

Well the water pump and timing belt are on the opposite side of the motor, so nothing you do for the tranny swap will help you. How many miles are on the car??? replacing the rear main seal isnt a bad idea, while the transmission is out, replacing the pilot bearing, and throwout bearings are a good thing to replace. you will be pulling the exhaust, so consider exhaust gaskets. as you pull the xmission out, just look for things that are worn.

main seal. whether you need it or not. no sense in skipping it then a month or two later you need one lol
i would do clutch, flywheel (use stock if you can), pliot bearing, throwout bearing
cv joints. just go threw it, if it looks warn replace, or rebuild it.

t belt has noithing to do with tranny swap but i wouldnt hurt lol... how many miles?

It has 150,000 miles on it. Im not saying that I need the timing belt replaced I did that at 120,000 i was just using it as a an example of replacing things that require the same labor. So basicly just check everything while the transmission is off and replace as needed?

at 150k, DEFINITELY replace rear main seal, its like 12 bux, and all you need to do is take off the flywheel. You should prolly have the flywheel resurfaced also, and inspect your clutch disc, but replace pilot bearing and throwout bearing regardless of clutch disc condition.

O and as for cv axles, i wouldnt replace unless they are bad. They kinda expensive, and if they go bad down the road, they easy to get at. Now would be a perfect time to do suspension upgrades, lowering springs, coilovers, etc... and also ball joints if they are needed.

Thank you for the advice, and as much as I wish that I was putting in a new suspension, ill have to pay off this repair first.

One more question, is there a gasket between the trans and engine, and what is it called?

I would replace the clutch release (slave) cylinder if it's old or if it's the original one from the factory.

Cheap and easy, they usually go for about $20.
