Default 94 Civic Timing Chain

Okay I've put this off long enough. The car has 148,000 miles. We bought it when it had 80,000 back in 99. Don't know if the timing belt was ever changed. I know I should use OEM Honda Belts and change the water pump while I'm in there. I know it'll be a b*tch cause all the accesories (A/C, Alternator, P/S) are in the way. I know the Motor mount must be unbolted and the engine supported while "unmounted" I know the easiest way to gain access is with a lift and removing the front tire. I am gonna do this myself soon. (within a month). I have basic hand tools and access to a floor jack. I need to buy stands, all the belts and water pump. 1/2 drive socket set (for engine mount removal and turning crank). So what I really wanna know is how long does it take, and did I miss anything. I have a Chilton's manual and might buy a Haynes manual too. I guess I just want reassurance that it's not really that hard. I get the impression that getting to the damn belt is all the work. Have you done it? How long did it take, did you have any help?

All I know is, trying to use a socket with a breaker bar on the pulley nut most of the time does not work too well. A impact is the best if you can get access to one since the engine will want to rotate with a breaker bar. Even if you can go to a shop and have someone just back the nut off and snug it down so you know it will come off you'll have better luck with it. Other than that just take your time and you'll have no worries. Good luck!

I didn't think I needed to remove the pulley. You're talking about the cam gear right? It is my understanding there is a tensioner I need to relieve tension on and the timing belt should slide off. Am I wrong?

You need to remove the pulley to get to the tensoner......there are a lot of steps to do the Timing belt change.....

Here read all of this.

I'm not sure about C-Speeds "plan B" in case air tools don't get the crank pulley off. My suggestion would be to take the clutch access cover off and stick a screwdriver in the teeth of the ring gear on the flywheel. If you're '94 is VTEC, there will also be 2 little "bridges" between the block and bell housing that you'll have to remove to get the cover off.

Get a new valve cover gasket and make sure your water pump comes with a new gasket too.

well i have never heard of rplacing the tensioner pulley when you do a timing belt on a civic.i do t-belts everyday on civics and have never done it. and thats at a honda dealership.dont waste your money on a new pulley.you can by a special tool for the crank pulley.to hold it so it wont move when you break it loose with a pry bar. its only like 15.00 dollars cheaper than a impact
