will gsr timing belt + water pump fit an LS?
Someone on CL has brand new OEM water pump and timing belt for sale for a GSR (not sure which year but hes got other stuff from a 97). Would those two items fit an 94 LS?
ok I know this thread is old but I dont want to make a new one. I am seeing a guy on cl that has a gsr timing belt. I am building a motor. I am using an ls block but I have a gsr oil and water pump. Should I use a gsr timing belt then or no? He also has a tensioner...will this fit onto an ls block to?

ok this is Easy and i have done this befor and friends cars and there still running just fine.
the LS oil pump is Junk compaired to the GSR pump. the GSR pump is ment to feed 4 oil sprayers used to cool and lube the bottom of the pistons. there for it is setup for higher flow rate and higher PSI then the LS. if you get a GSR oil pump that is off a 96'+ motor you will need the lower timing belt cover
also the water pump on an LS is 19 Teeth where the GSR is 22 Teeth as a result the GSR pully is larger then the LS this means that it turns slower then the LS pump as a result of this the pump is not going to cavatate at High RPM's like the LS will and will provied better cooling at higher engine RPM's
now with the pully on the Water pump being bigger you need a LONGER belt for the timmng. The GSR belt is the Key it is longer to make up for the bigger water pump pully on the GSR. this only gets complicated if you shave the head to it's minimum thickness
and deck the block to the max I.E. you cant shave ANY more of the block deck or head.
the cam gear's, crank gear and tentsioner are the same size on both the LS and the GSR so if you use a LS water pump use an LS belt GSR pump GSR belt it's that Easy.
So YES you use the GSR belt with the GSR Water Pump.

GSR oil pump is Better then the LS
awsome thanks for the response. Ok so I just went out and counted the teeth...3 times...it has 20 teeth on it. What does that mean? Guy I bought it from said it was a gsr pump...

I know the thread is old, but figure asking here.
In a previous post a guy said use the gsr pumps and let because its better than the Ls. Just to clarify. He meant use them on an Ls motor right?

LS motor, you can use the LS water pump.
When somebody changes the pump for a GSR one, it is because he made a LS vtec or something to rev higher, basically, GSR water pumps do better at higher RPMs, for a stock ls motor I will use the stock LS water pump...

I currentyl have the gsr oil and water pumps on and the GSR belt. Can i just put the ls head on and use it with the gsr belt and gsr pumps since they work better?
You say youd use stock ls water pump, i have the ls pumps, but i dont want to have to take them off, change the gaskets and stuff whem they are already sitting there working fine, and the oil pump, ill have to drop the pan and up bolt it and yadda yadda. Thats why im asking if i can just keep it all on to work with the ls head
you know what, try it and see of the belt is short enough to run an ls head with gsr water pump.
I bet most dont realize it, but the space between the block and cams is actually taller on the vtec head.

Yea. Te gsr head was taller than my Ls. I was only able to bolt on 2 of the steering pump bolts cuz the belt was too short lol. I am going to just put the Ls head on, I think the belt will have to much slack and I'll have to put the Ls belt on.
Tomorrow I am going to slide the belt on, will let you know how it fits.
You just try it, the water pump is only 5 bolts away from being switch
yeah except I dont have an engine to try it on, nor have I bought a gsr pump yet. im gonna need one though. vtec or not, spinning an engine past 8k is a no go with an ls pump.
