Idle Problem
- Has anyone gotten into this problem?
My idle is barely at 500 most of the time.
When i brake it goes lower.. 300 or less at times
When turning the tire when parked lowers the rpm
The AC drains the car a lot too.
With the AC and trying to reverse and doing a uturn will stall the car..
I do have a system 500 watts + 300 watts
Blue top
1F cap on the 500..
I checked the battery.. Good 14.1V
Alternator ..Good 14.3V
.. I haven't cleaned any of the idle and throttle stuff..
Would it be just cleaning?
Replacement better?
Is it even that?
(Anyone got better pictures of how to clean the idle valve? how to actually take stuff off?
do i need to remove the hoses and what not?
Anything else?
Any ideas will help.. Its getting really annoying.. Its one of the two things i need to fix and i'll be happy..
- Other things are bent control arms on the right front and messed up hub i believe..
(really bad alignment)
P.S. if you are selling some '94-'97 headlights in good condition for retro. let me know.

for those that have cleaned up their IACV, FITV and TB.. how did you remove your screws and what not because i cant get to them.. especially the IACV ones..
okay.. so this is the engine bay of my car..
'94 Accord LX 4Dr
- The black cylinder thing in the middle back is the idle control valve right?
what do i need to take off and clean?
(sorry for the dirty engine bay. a little scared to clean the car..)

.. Top View of what i believe are all those pieces needing cleaning?

Removing the IACV:
Remove the intake air duct to give you more space. I actually also disconnected the MAP plug and TPS plug. I used a 12mm wrench to remove the two bolts. Then disconnected the water hoses and electrical plug. It is a narrow space, but you will be able to reach it after removing somethings on its way.

You could try removing the entire plenum from your intake manifold. That way it will be easier to clean everything.
1. remove air intake tube from throttle body
2. Undo the throttle cable bracket, remove the cable ends from the throttle body.
3. disconnect all electrical connections, ensure to label them before you disconnect them. Don't forget the intake ground on the right end of the plenum.
4. with a 12mm socket and an extension remove the 5 bolts that attach the upper and lower half of the manifold. be careful not to crush or cut the metal gasket. It can be re-used. I've used the same one three times.
5. Disconnect and label all vacuum hoses. Along with the coolant lines that are connected to the FITV and IACV.
6. Carefully lift the complete upper plenum, throttle body, FITV & IACV up out of hte engine bay. I may have forgotten something to disconnect.
7. start removing parts and cleaning with carb/throttle body cleaner and a soft bristle tooth brush.
8. Put it all back together.
If I missed anything please fill in the blanks, I'm just doing this from memory. I used to clean mine on a yearly basis. It was part of my spring preventative maintenance tuneup...
If you can't find your 12mm wrench or socket your going to have a hard time working on any Honda. Using a US standard wrench/socket will possibly lead to stripped bolt heads.

so i took off the idle control.. but i cant take off the hoses.. anyone got an idea? i was able to pinch one of the things off but the hose itself is stuck.. how do i take it off?
Use a set of adjustable/slip joint pliers and grip the hose. Not to tight though, you don't want to crush the inlet/outlet tube. Apply just enough pressure so that when you twist it the hose won't move. If you have the IACV disconnected you can twist the IACV in one direction and the pliers(hose) in the other. You should hear a small snap and the hose should start to turn. Then you should be able to pull it off.
okay.. NOTHING came out of the hoses.... what should i do about it? i should really bleed my coolant huh? what do i buy? how much?
my little mesh thing was SUPER dirty...
ideas?

I haven't gotten to drive the car. Waiting for the fan to turn on. The car is still at about 500 tho. I want to do the coolant. But how?
Then maybe check the base idle
If not. Then get the throttle and what not.

so.... ill just keep updating so you know..
i cleaned the idle valve..
i then adjusted the base idle but how much can i pull out the screw? not sure how much its out.. my brother did it.. its maybe 3-5mm out.. and it sat at barely 500 base idle..
when i drive it now, it at least doesn't drop below 500. it stays at about 800-600 when slowing down and right at the beginning of being at a complete stop .. but slowly drops to 500..
.. should i do the coolant and see how it goes? (DIY on that anyone?)
.. or do you know its probably another part of the car?
.. can i adjust the base idle more?
.. any ideas?

Okay. So I have a question. After cleaning it, the car runs great when it comes to getting the extra power to keep up with it's needs. (amp, reverse, braking, a/c, car cooling fan).
I want to know what rpm is the car suppose to run at about 70mph? My car runs at 3.5k. My brother has a 97 accord and his runs much less.
Can I adjust the ratios somehow?
Can might be wrong?
The car has been this was before cleaning the idle control valve but not as bad.
Also, the cars shifting isn't very smooth. What can I do?
The car changes gears at about 3000-3500 rpm when doing slightly hard acceleration.
Let me know on any input
