00 gsr- what oil is recommended?

Mobil 1 10W30 Full Synthetic...just remember, once switching to this, you can't go back to using regular oil...it won't be good for your car.

 

lol at nsxtasy! that was funny. i've never used full synthetic, only semi. but, i've never been able to tell a difference in semi, and normal oil either. hey, wdg 729, your from right up the road i believe?

to hammond, i just did an oil change on my wife's car for the first time(just got married not cuz im a car newb) and went from cheap wal-mart oil change regular detergent oil to full synthetic mobil 1 10w-30 and its a night and day difference. better mpg, smoother running, easier start-up, i would guess a power increase but its been damn near 100 degrees here during the day so its hard to tell but there are so many more pluses to changing. my dad used to put the synth blend in his suburban and it was just a waste of money. he went full synth and again noticed a difference. no turning back now!

 

hmmm..... might have to give synthetic a try then. i'm all about better performance. i just never thought it would come from oil. lol. thanks VTEC PRODUCTION!

How's it wrong?...and you even just said you used it...damn hypocrite...if you go from full synthetic back to regular it won't run the same...look at what you just said...you calling it wrong is the dumbest thing that i've ever heard.

 

Wow, another oil question...people just don't search anymore...Regular 5 30 is fine...But the full syn. just last longer...Certain Full syn. oil are better then others yes, and some are crap...and not worth a cent. I use Castrol GTX 5 30 to brake in all my new builds...I run on this for about the first 3 to 4 oil changes...I always change my 1st oil change at 500-750 miles, after a new build...to see if there is any contamination in my engine. Then the 2nd comes around 1000-1500 miles, my 3rd comes at around 2000-2500, I repeat once more depending on the color and smell of the oil...At this point, the engine is fully broken in, and I move on to a full syn oil, once again 5 30, and like using redline, and amsoil high proformance full syn oil...They hold up well at higher temps. which means that the proformance of your engine doesn't suffer as much under high temps...Not to put other oils on the spot, but Royal Purple, Mobile1, and Eneos were crap! Thes types of oils have a high percentage of detegant used to keep your engine clean, the flip to this is that it bubbles up...which makes your engine run hotter, which means more wear on your engine internal compoants...So it your choice...I run all my cars hard...and have different set ups on them...From a mild B16...to a high compression GSR...and an all motor LSV with 13.1:1 compression. On a stockish car with bolt ons...just stick to the regular oil...

 

Yeah...I use Castrol as well...but everyone seems to recommend Mobil 1, which is why I passed on the suggestion. But I do see your point.

 

I use mobile 1 synthetic and dont think i will ever use anything else. Makes the car run smoother and quieter imo

If you DO look in the manual, you will find that Honda - the people who designed and manufactured your car - recommends 5W30 as the preferred viscosity at all outside temperatures. You can also use 10W30 if the outside temperature doesn't go below 20 degrees F, but 5W30 is still preferred.

Absolutely NOT true.

You can change from synthetic to conventional oil, and vice versa, as long as you want, without any harmful effects from the change. If you are getting a performance difference, it is due to some other cause.

You just won't get the benefits of synthetic when you're using conventional oil - the higher resistance to breakdown at high temperatures, and the better flow characteristics at low temperatures.

Also not true. Synthetic oil will build up particulates and contamination as quickly as conventional oil. The manufacturers of synthetic oil do not recommend longer oil change intervals just because you are using synthetic oil. They made such claims when synthetic oil first hit the market several decades ago, but they have since backed away from those claims.

I'm amazed when the same question is asked over and over again. I'm even more amazed when wrong information is posted in response, especially after all the other discussions that have already taken place.

 

Ok...well I was suggested not to ever switch back to conventional oil...I mean it makes sense that it would be sade, considering the conventional will still get the job done...I was passing on the advice...but I stand corrected.

Those that do are satisfied...I haven't heard any complaints about full synthetic in general...just the occasional this is better, that is better.

 

0w-30 is the IDEAL weight every integra should use.
Yes you can change back from syn to conventional.

Im not an oil expert, but synthetics do last longer than conventional. you can certainly do longer drain intervals. There are many test proven that synthetics can go over 10k to as much as 15k per change. I think bmw recommends 20k intervals if they use synthetics but i think thats ridiculous. I havent seen any conventional oil advertise 15k miles or change once a year, but you see do synthetics from castrol, amsoil and mobil advertise that

I disagree with OW30 being Ideal, you must remember that not everyone lives in sunny california, and not everyone with an Integra is built.
But like I also stated syn. oil will last longer, you can prove it to yourself, change your reg. oil at 2500, and put it on a test sample, do the same with the syn oil with the same mileage, and you will see what I am talking about, company's no longer advertise this because people will take it the wrong way, and think they can put that syn oil in there 250K Dodge neon or what ever high mileage car with no tune up, and expect it to be in good running condition after 7500 miles or more...That's how lawsuites happen...
