Quick question regarding front struts - 5th gen
is this little notch extremely important to have? (green circle)
i accidentally broke the one on my driver side front strut. i should be good as long as i line it up the best i can, the pinch bolt sits in the little "divot" (below the now broken notch) and the bolt is tightened, right?

I would think that it prevents the shock from rotating. I guess you could try it as long as you tighten it to spec. It can't fall out of the fork, so I don't see a problem with it.
yeah i didn't think it would be a HUGE deal. just wanted to make sure no one else saw anything majorly dangerous with that notch missing.
its my gf's car and she saw me break it so i had to assure her it was still okay.
just for good measure i thought i'd ask everyone else!

The only thing I can think of is that if the shock does happen to rotate, it might move the spring notch unlocking the spring from where it's suppose to be snug against the strut assembly. With enough wiggling around, the spring could potentially fall out of it's seated position. I'm no engineer though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
thanks for the input.. i see what you mean. i am gonna guess that the shock won't be rotating much if at all, but i will definitely keep my eye on it!
