Default Steering Knuckle, Ball Joint, and Brake Removal Write-up with Pictures

For those who have searched for an good write-up with pictures for trying to service anything in the front end, I made this and it might help.

This should work for Brake Caliper/Rotor Removal, Ball Joint Service, Wheel Bearing Service.

Howeever I have been unable to upload it with anyluck. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can upload this file?

Are you talking about a .pdf or a publisher file? Or just how to host pictures?

with the switch over to vBulletin you can now attach bmp doc gif jpg pdf png psd txt and zip files to your post.

Below the main text box where you write your post and the submit button, you'll see some other options. One of the other options is "attach files". Click on the "manage attachments" button and another window will pop up allowing you to browse your computer for a file or enter a url of a file. This window also specifies things like max file size and max picture dimensions.

What does "Check your PM" mean?

I am uploading a 20 page PDF file that is about 5mb total size. I have already posted all the pictures, put diagrams in, and wrote discriptions within that PDF so would like to use it.

Keep the help coming.

Thanks,

slychicken37, just a FYI... the 1998-2002 Accord is the 6th Generation, not the 5th Generation.

I've also added a link to this thread in the FAQ

Will I need a spring compressor to take the knuckle out? Or just if I want to take a struts out?

Can't really use the Honda hub puller on our cars either. Cause the bearing is a seperate from the hub replacment needs to be pressed into both the knuckle AND the hub!!

You should be able to "convince" the ABS sensor to come out of its socket. I used a large flat head screw driver and leveraged it out. Make sure to try and not damage the sensor though, but I found it to be stronger that imagined.

Worst case use a little PB blaster and let it sit for a while.

Hope this helps

I just ended up disconnecting in the engine bay at the connector. The back fedd all teh grommets and wire bridges on out!! My Honda repair guy said they are easier to do that way.

You can buy just the boots for the upper and lower ball joint from the stealership. Both joints were ok, just ripped boots with pickle fork I unfortunely used to seperate. Replaced the C-clips that held the grease boots in place with safety wires cause stealerwanted $8 per for stupid C-clips. Refilled with freash grease fron gun with needle adapter.
