Mysterious overheating problem
I have a d16y7/z6 mini me and recently have stumbled upon a weird over heating problem. It happened first when I was driving home and then had to pull over because my car just lost all power and there was a hole melted in my overflow tank from all the steam from the coolant shooting out of it. I figured it was my thermostat wigging out so I bought a new one and installed it. I ran it yesterday for a little while and it seemed fine, but then later driving around it started bogging really bad and overheating bad once again. After sitting there to let it cool off I started it and drove it home, but it was bogging the whole way, to which it sounded like a Harley :S Any idea on what could be causing this? I have not seen any leaks either.
Replace the radiator cap (relatively inexpensive) and then bleed the cooling system of possible trapped air. The latter must be done as follows:
1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end up.
2) Turn the dash heater ****/lever to MAX heat.
3) Complete all steps in the diagram below.

It sounds like you blew the hell out of a head gasket!! WOOOOAAAHHH!!
Fill your coolant to the top using the air bleeder as noted above..
On a cold start, radiator topped off, leave the radiator cap off.. After starting the car check to see if water starts overflowing from the radiator.. if it does, you're building pressure in your cooling system from a blown gasket. This in turn blows all your coolant into your now nonexistant resivoir and overheats..
If you overheated it THAT bad, you probably warped your head pretty bad as well.. I highly suggest running this test.. If it fails, you should take the head to a machine shop so they can see if it is warped and if not, they can re-surface it so your new gasket will seal..

now instead of $8 worth of coolant, you're looking at a head gasket and possibly a new head.
Your head gasket may have had a slight leak to begin with which could have forced the air into your coolant passages which caused your engine to overheat.

Just a FYI in case you guys didn't know..
hardwire the fan on ur radiator so everytime the car has power it turns on and dont shut off till u shut the car off mine was over heating till i did that now it stays a little under the half way mark
