I was driving to school i got about a two miles away from my house and my car shuts off. I gave it some gas while driving and nothing. put it gear while rolling...then put n nuetral and it was still off. Was running good before and now this.
Timing looks good plugs have normal wear..new battery new alternator.
When i turn key on fuel pump sounds like it turns on.
When i crank it it backfires a little bit...and when standing behind car it sound hollow through the muffler.

Maybe your timing belt skipped a tooth, maybe snapped, clogged catalytic converter, or your coil could have just died. Its really hard to tell.
The backfiring (hollow sound) exhaust your describing upon starting happened to me when I mistakenly put the plugs in the wrong order on the distributor cap.
Goodluck

Yeah I thought so too..but I lined everything up to TDC and cams still point up.
I doubt its my cat ill try to start it tomorrow with it straight header.
Could the coil just die while I'm driving it!
I was not even driving fast.
I was low on oil though. But I'm sure that is not the reason it shut off while driving.
i will swap out the coil with another one.
Thank you so much for your reply appreciated!

Im not experienced in any way in this particular problem or troubleshooting it, but possibly the main relay? Thats just what comes into mind first after reading through alot of similar problems in the past. Or would that not cause it to just shut off?

As far as bolt ons...only jdm type r headers. The motor itself has only 2000 miles on it from a fresh build...Its built for turbo.
Im running a stock ecu and stock fuel pressure regulator.
My car did sit with some fuel in the tank for like 2 years! before i ran it i threw some chem tool into the tank filled it and ran fine.
I might pull out the fuel pump to see if it is clogged.

This happened to my hatch. It was a fuse. Check the fuse box under the hood. I can't remember exactly wich fuse it was. After I changed it it ran fine till I poped a under dash harness conector. So if it is that fuse most likely you have a power surge going on
Hi!
Well okie i've had this exact situation.. i was driving on the freeway coming home from work.. and i stopped at a red light.. car idle just fine and blab it goes dead.. gave it gas and everything. nothing seem to go. battery was full, just had oil change all the tune up..so once i towed it home i started digging.
you need 1) timing, 2) fuel 3.) Spark. <~correct me if i'm wrong.?..
it seemed like you check your timing and it seems to be correct, and do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to ignition? you should hear a hissssssss, then you should be good. lastly i would check all the spark stuff.
THIS IS WHERE I HAD PROBLEMS:
so i did the same exact thing you did. i borrowed a buddies distributor and try to start it up. slapped it on and try to fire it up. got nothing a small backfire. i then begain to tare apart my distribtor to find out that both coils were completely fried. replace both of those got a new set of wires and some plugs.. tried it again.. nothing.. then i had a buddy of mine take a look at it (25 year honda tech) he notice that i was off by two teeth on my timing belt. we tore apart my head and got it sitting just right. cross my fingers and then it fired up. got a lot of old gas running through. the car had sit for almost 2 years.
but just make sure to check it all.. even the iacv
my other buddy had SLEEPIN-GSR problem but he did a swap in his motor and got a bad set of harnesses and it fried his main fuse.. so thats my experience.. hope it helps.

Replace your fuel filter, and check the filter on the fuel pump...Install a fuel pressure guage on top of your Fuel filter, and see if are holding fuel pressure, or if you are losing it...Check the ignitor as well.
