d16y8 parts on d16y7
I just bought a bunddle of d16y8 parts
1. intake : fuel rails, intake mani...
2. exhaust mani...
3. v-tec head
I found out how to swap the intake on my y7 but I want to know if there's something special about swaping the v-tec head!?
I heard that there's something in the bloc that I need to add so the oil is "pushed up" further!?

i'm trying to do the same thing too. so far you have to remove a litle bolt between cylinder 2 and 3, no need ot tap oil. but look at forums LIKE CRAZY. that's what i'm doing and so far so good on the research! good luckk with your "mini-me" swap!
just changed to vtec head, kept the same intake manifold and injectors are the same. changed to vtec distrubuter, vtec engine wireharness, no need to change any wiring on the car cause its pre wired for vtec all the way down to the computer, and also got a vtec ecu... i got a vtec distrubuter for sale.... sohc.... easiest **** i ever did
what parts did u use?
i'm thinking about getting a new water pump but not sure if i need the ex instead of the original block. not sure on the timing belt, maybe the ex belt since it's the ex head, getting a obd1 harness, using 96 ex head and gonna use ex air manifold! i'm not sure about the crank, rod, pistons along with the rings, want to get some new ones but low on budget. would the ex pistons and crank give better compression? wouldn't that give me a dangerous ratio?

No need for all that.. Unfortunately it is still a d series. You can use all the stock parts from the y7. I did all the research before, and found it was a waste of time to do all that. The block is the exactly the same just stamped y7 due to a head difference. That`s why it`s a easy swap to v-tec. Oh yeah the transmission ratio is different, Y7 tranny has longer gears, but is still ok to use. Just use a V-tec head gasket.

it`s still a baby... you shoudnt have no problems but if you feel safer it`s up to you. personally i wouldnt bother, more money on nothing. To purchase pistons, new rings, crank, new bearing, new gaskets, would cost you more to rebuild, then just go get a jdm motor, 130k is barely becoming out of virginity, but feel free to do research on it yourself..
This thread is full of a bunch of ****. OP, If your going to be taking the head off your motor i would highly reccomend a new headgasket and timing belt. Order a OEM headgasket for a Y8 and both the Y7 and Y8 timing belts are the same length(order OEM). The Y8 intake manifold flows a hell of a lot better than the Y7 manifold which you can notice by just looking at the design of them both. If you swap manifolds your going to have to figure out a new intake system if your using the stock intake box because its a horizontal mounted throttle body. Search around about the headstud issue because i am not 100% sure about that.
If your worried about the bottom end of your motor, do a compression and leakdown test for starters. If that turns out fine then just leave it. Rebuilding the motor is going to be big money and you are probably going to be in over your head if your asking about a cyl head swap that has been discussed many times and there a tons of guides around regarding this.
