Icon2 Broken wheel studs

my prelude is a 93 and I'm not sure how I should replace 2 wheel studs. I really don't want to press the hub off and have to buy a new bearing but I don't see anyway around it. does anyne have experience witht his?

No pressing needed

Are they front or rear studs? Both can be hammered out and pulled back in with nuts, but the fronts have less space to work with.

It is definitely possible, but you may have to grind a bit from the front of the knuckle. I have installed extended studs in the front and it just took some grinding, should be much less for a stock length stud.

It's a lot easier than the alternative

just curious...what symptoms are you noticing that are making you want to replace them?? is it a "clicking noise" up there? think i will soon be doing the same thing on the nissan family car.

no symptoms. i was missing 1 since i had bought the car and when i went to take the wheel off 1 other was seized on there so i broke that one too. so i only have 2 outa 4 now and since i'm swapping motors this is a good time to get it done.

I bet people are tired of seeing my post this picture by now, but here is the area I had to grind to install the extended studs if it helps:

You won't have to do near as much for normal studs. Those rotary tool attachments that are a cylinder shape or sandpaper work great

Yes, it is the cheapest way. It's called making cost & time-effective decisions.

Please do explain how this is the 'shittiest' way to do and what is the 'rite' way. Taking all your suspension apart so you can put the hub in a press? No need for that.....

LOL!, I will never be selling my Prelude. Even so, the integrity of the knuckle/spindle/whatever-you-like-to-call-it is not compromised in any way. I will drive with it like this for years from now as I have already been for years with absolutely no problems.

'Rite' is not a word, but certainly there is nothing wrong with adding your 2 cents

a little grinding definitly did the trick... very simple to get them in/out after that.

Couldn't you just rotate the wheel to avoid grinding?

No, there's not a spot that has enough space for a stud to come through
